This is odd... I tried searching because I know I have read posts about painting wheels before, but I came up with nothing.

So, can anyone give me sort of step-by-step instructions on how to paint my stock wheels? I know there are some guys who have painted theirs gunmetal or black and they look pretty nice. Thanks.

get sand paper sand down the alloy on ur wheels an get the scratches out. Then primer the wheel, then spray paint them what ever color you want, do a few coats. Then put like 2 clear coats over that. An there ya go.

Paint will eventually come off.

Get them powder-coated. It's not terribly expensive, and it'll outlast the wheels.

Well my only problem is that im a po' college student with a single car and a single set of wheels. So the idea of taking the wheels off for a few days to be powdercoated and having my car on blocks in the middle of a ghetto in Atlanta without a driveway or garage to speak of is a bit unnerving. I need a garage!!!

But Silent Drifter, when you talk about getting the scratches out, do you mean the scratches that exist currently, or the scratches that will arrive from course sandpaper?

Im talkin bout the scratches already on your rims, like get the curb rash out. Use coarse paper to get the coating off an smooth it down, then use a less coarse paper to get it nice an smooth.

I would say get them powdercoated only if you really like your wheels. Otherwise, you're better off painting them yourself. I painted my white wheels black because I got tired of cleaning them every week and black matches better with my CF hood and black hatch (after I took the spoiler and rear wiper off).

I believe I bought 8 cans of $0.99 Home Depot glossy black spray paint. That's exactly 2 cans per wheel. Yeah, I know it's a lot but that's because I didn't use primer for base coat. For sand paper, I think I used 180 or 200 grit. I can't remember.

I'll try to take some pics of it tomorrow.

Approximately 25 bucks per wheel if you prep them. I have a local shop that will do them quickly. Good turn around times... I have beenn thinking of doing this myself, but i would need some 5 lug spares to ride on until they got done. Anyone in ATL wanna give me some old wheels for a 5 lug?

I'm kidding, this is a pal's stove from the fc forums. However, I've been researching the idea and it won't cost you more than 300 bux to get all the powdercoating equipment.

150$ for gun50$ for electic stove at goodwill10-15$ for a pound of paint.
