Hi,

I am in the process of customising my 90 240SX. I have trouble getting the AC vents out. Does anyone know on how to do it quickly and easily without damaging the vents.

Thanks in advance.

Kevin

why's it gotta be "rice" if your painting some of your interior. Alot of car's it looks really good on. Putting 50 stickers on a stock car, or a 5'' exhaust tip on a rust bucket : that's rice. Why's it rice if he's customizing his interior to his personal "style".

if its white, yellow, red, oh wait its rice any way you look at it !!!! why cause thats what i think so deal with it ..... ricer !!! just take the dash board out and paint that while your at it make sure its highly contrasting and very bright ... remember the brighter the color the hight the horse power content !!!!

AC vent's are not "rice". Big HKS stickers on a stock car with chrome hub caps is rice. You guys should stop judging people over this sorta small stuff. If you don't like it just don't post a reply. Your car's IMO are a representation of your personal style, if you can't customize your car without being critisized than whey do we customize our cars. Flame me 4 this if you want but we should not be hating on people over this crap.

To remove there are 2 small clips on the top of the inside of the vents. I'm not sure if that will help any but that's all I got.

I'll chime in. Here is what I think, and What I think is important. =P

Spray-Painting vents on a stock or ghetto modded car is ricey and cheap. It alway ends up cracking fading, peeling, lookin like crap.

Spray-Painting vents to match your MoMo Seats, Steering wheel, Shift-knob, and custom door inserts, is not rice, its a theme, and themes win shows. The owner of this kind of car will likely take good care to quickly repair any chips or scrapes, as well as using quality paint to start with.

I dont know which situation this person is in, so I wont comment on his specific car.

Well I kind of agree. but no matter what color the rest of your car is painting the AC vents a different color than your dash looks cheap and half assed. Its just like the guys who paint their windshield wipers yellow. Even if you have a white shift boot and knob to tie it in painting the vents white looks cheap. If you decide to paint every piece of interior molding with nice vinyl paint that doesnt have an extremely glossy finish it could look good. But dont do it halfway because it isn't fancy or racy looking. Just cheap.

I tried and tried and tried again.... I couldnt do it.

For all those who replied to this post, please go back to my question, CAN YOU HELP ME REMOVE THE A/V VENTS ? DO YOU KNOW HOW TO DO IT ?

If you dont have the answer, please do not post a message. I understand that everyone has their own view, I apprecite it, but I dont want to listen to it.

Thanks for your time.

i painted mine and they were a biatch to get off let me tell you....but what i did was take the whole console cover off and unscrew the ac controls so i could push it back in and got behind the vent and popped it out that way(it was still hard as hell but easier to not break the vent that way), that was for the middle vent...for the one all the way on the right side i opened the glove box up and could get behind the vent through that way, i couldnt find a way to get the little vent all the way to the left on the drivers side off so i didnt paint that one but you realy dont see it anyways..

the best way to do it if i were you would be to go to a junkyard and get the vents off of a car there for like $5 then paint those and keep your black ones just incase you want to change them back or if you mess up on one or sumthin like that....anyways... /\ hope that helped

okay, i'll try to be nicer. here's the lowdown.

if you paint your vents, you will hate yourself in a few months because there's a 99.9% chance its gonna look tacky as hell and we're just trying to save you the heartache.

When people have very low funds (not saying this is the case), and want to do mods to their car, there are two ways to go.

1. Do any 'free mods' that are available such as blocking off the EGR and stuff. *good* 2. Make hasty decisions that they regret later on because they dont have the cash to do real mods. *bad*

Speaking of vents, i rode in my friends turbo civ yesterday. He hated the fact that he painted his vents and stuff. Paint is chipping off and it looks like crap anyways.

If I started a thread 'Painting my wheels green, need help'how much help do you think id get and why?

Again, it's ok to say it will look bad... but calling people names IS NOT ok. If your not going to help by posting then dont post at all.

Hey Nissanracer,

Thanks man, that really helped, I"m gonna get to the bottom of this thing tomorrow morning.

And J92s, thanks to you too man. I wanna do this coz I already have a spare set of ac vents. I understand what you are trying to tell me and I agree, but I just wanna give it a shot.

Moderater, thanks for your help.

And ooh yeah I technically am a rice eater, so it all adds up ;-)

it does kinda add up

rice + slow car = rice

rice + fast car = expressing one's inner self

hey, im thinking of painting my interior trim, probobly not vents though, maybe, but maybe not, anyways, what paint are u using? for my job, im gonna sand, prime, sand, prime, then paint, then clear coat, using exterior spray paint (no chipping) my car is white, so im using dark gray/silver/aluminium type color, not blue or anything raindow looking. rice or nice? im also gonna hook up some interior lighting under the dash (looks great, did it for a buddy) all this before summer, then i go turbo

Yes, there is special primer and paint both for vinyl car trim pieces. Only place I would deal with that Ive seen it sold from is Summit Sport Compact. Be sure to use the special primer and paint though. Normal paint looks really dull and chips when its in the sun and heat on your dash. If you paint your dash a contrasting color to stock I suggest you try hard to match your A/C vents to it. Its all about cohesion. If you paint just the A/C vents it wont look great, and likewise if you paint all but the A/C vents it wont look so great either.

I"m using a plastic primer that I found in walmart. Its white. But I"m painting it silver with some exterior paint that I found at some auto store. I"m trying to get the right color now, so I"m not spending money on the costly trim paint.

For now I did do a clear coat and it looks really good, but I think I can choose another color that makes it look better. Be careful though, I had an old piece covering my shifter, it seemed to be okay, but once I painted it, those minute scratches and wear started showing. Even after a couple of coats, they still were there. So sanding it should be a good option before you start.

I'm still trying to get the vents out... going to school full time is really a hurdle.

Keep me updated.

what you should do is put a layer of paint on, then sand it with fine grit sandpaper (400-600) then put another coat on and sand it again. keep it up till its as smooth as you like. sanding the trim itself is just gonna make a mess, but if you cover it with paint then sand down the high spots in the paint it will be ok, then before you clear coat use some fine steel wool to rough it up so the clear coat doesnt flake off later.

So tell me about these "free mods" blocking the EGR and what not?

I dont know anything about blocking the EGR on a nissan, but its commonly done by the honda and DSM guys. You can always advance your timing for some extra low-end powar. There's most likely some more free stuff you can do for a little power, but im still learning nissan stuff. I dont even have a 240 yet, but im gettin one soon
