ok so now i have the lips all done but the spokes need to be painted. I am deciding between using the Duplicolor rim paint (silver) then paint on some spray on clearcoat I used on the rivet bolts and do them all myself or pay $200-$300 bucks for powdercoating (really dont want to do that). Ok my questionons:

How much should I sand the spokes before I paint, down to the bare or just ruff them up? The can says to use at temp 60F and above, where I live that doesnt happen alot so can I bend that rule with a sunny nice day?

Any other words of wisdom? I figure if they go south I can then have them powdercoated. If it lasts permantly 2 years that will be great.

Thanks as always

bleh on spending 200+ dollars. i would sand the wheels with 400 grit until smooth, then do multiple light coats of the wheel paint / clear. just do it on a sunny day, it will be fine but space the coats out, they need ample time to dry and it can take pretty long for spraypaint to dry in cold weather.

If you can, get them sandblasted with a fine grit like glassbead, then primer, coat, then clear coat.

Thats exacting what I have been doing and my plan was.

I'll think about the sandblasting but most likely will just keep them as I have been doing by sanding with 400 grit paper.

What do you mean by primer (nessesary)? What kind of primer do you recommend? Also what about acetone? << cant I just use rubbing alcohol?

i would just use metal or automotive primer. are you talking about rubbing alcahol to clean them? if so then that is a suitable replacment for acetone, the point is that it evaporates and leaves no residue. so any chemical that does that.

Yea I dont want to use acetone so was thinking of rubbing alcohol or better yet just powe rwash them.

So the process will be:

1. Rinse and wash2. Sandpaper3. Powerwash and let dry4. Primer5. Paint

THANKS guys!

I would probably power wash, then sand, and wash with degreaser one more time before priming. You can also use MEK to clean them before painting. It's a strong, but very good type of thinner and evaporates really fast. I would also wet sand after you primer to get out any high spots.

Yeah I know mine's chopped...I've had it longer here though, I can guarantee that (since I've had it since before you even joined this site lol).

BTW, hope you realize I don't really care and I'm just f'n-01rc around.
