Here's my idea: I have the black interior on my Versa, and of course, it has black on the lower half, and then tan for the upper half.. I've always thought that this looked kinda strange. What I want to do is paint the pillars black, and add new fabric to the headliner. Do you guys see any problems with this?

The reason why they do this is to make the car seem more spacious. Lighter colors reflect more light and gives the perception of open-air/room.

You can't change the fabric in the headliner because there are airbags there.

I bet that could be done. This annoys me too. I just got a brand new Versa with the Charcoal interior, but the headliner matches the Sandstone interior, which isn't available on the S trim.

How would adding an extra layer of fabric to the headliner effect the airbags? I didn't even think there was room for airbags under the headliner.

Wouldn't the headliner be replaced rather than just covered?

no, because there was no black headliner for 2008. My plan was to use spray adhesive and attach black fabric to the headliner. Possibly something with a cool pattern.

I remember when I replaced my headliner in my 97 Cougar the shop made the headliner themselves, just with gray cloth. The only part they ordered were the visors. I'm sure you could find a shop that would make a black headliner. But if you want to do it yourself, it might be better to use spray adhesive and then sew around the edge of the entire headliner.

Whatever you decide to do with it, post some pictures when it's done! I'm interested in this now.

good idea. If I decide to try it, I will definitely do this. I have a bit of experience sewing, so I might be able to do it.

See the side airbags? Now imagine them trying to inflate on time while being held in by fabric you sewed over.

you can buy black dash panels but I like the black on black interior I say go for it, but again the headliner should be left alone. Just for safty reasons

And that picture has definitely changed my mind about the headliner idea. I would still like to do the pillars though. Also, I wish I had the hatchback Versa..

The sedan isnt as common around here as the hatch. I think that makes the sedan special in its own little way!

Actually the airbags deploy from behind the headliner and come through the space between the headliner and door/glass. Adding another layer or cloth (with adhesive spray holding it) is not going to affect your airbags. Don't sew it though. It's not going to do anythng but waste your time and labor. Spray adhesive is enough. Just take your time to not wrinkle the fabric while you lay it on the headliner. And we need pictures!

wait so the airbag deploys from inside of the headliner and moves from out of the crack of the headliner and the door? Right?

The dealer printed out the headliner information for me because I do plan on changing the headliner. It can be done ... but with sunroof, it looks like a pain in the neck!
