I know there have been posts in the past, but I cannot find the information I need.

I am planning on painting my grill and moustache black, but I will leave the burger chrome.

I have a few questions are for those who have done this:-What kind of paint should I buy? What is the best black that will match Nissans color?-What kind of primer should I buy for the stache?-Is there any prep work for painting the grill?

u can get overlays for it . . . much easier . . . only 15 bucks i think, Bat has them, I am not sure if LBC has added them to his arsenal yet. Check the sponsored manufacturers section.

I just had ym stache overlay put on, it looks delicious, she is in the shop right now getting the stillen lip painted/installed, otherwise i would have pics!!

sand to rough up the chrome. Then you can useKrylon glossy black, or just take it to a shop for 60 bucks.

I'd go with the overlays too though, cuz they won't chip.

wont chip/crackprotect the chrome under from smaller rocks etcif anything does happen, peel them off and apply another set for another 15 bucks.if you go to sell the car and people want their stache back, just tip the overlay off.

practicality & convenience FTW

I am in an unusual situation. I was in a small accident and the bumber needs to be replaced, but I got to keep the broken bumper which had very little damage.

So, I am going to have 2 grills. One will be factory and the other one is going to blacked out.

Also while I have an extra bumper to play around with Im going to work on some other grill concepts.

I would love to get the stillen facsia, but the body shop has to order an oem bumper. It is nice having an extra useless bumper because I can use it to try out a few things.

I painted mine. However, i definitely recommend the overlays. I used Krylon Fusion glossy black spray paint then like some Krylon clear coat. The color is a little off, but you only notice it when you get really close. However, tehre are little dings all over it from paint chipping, Again, you have to be really close to notice it.I will probably end up taking them off and sanding them down real good then putting on the overlays.

I decided to try it out with Krylon Fusion paint as well.

I am pretty much using the same process as you I have the Fusion paint and the Hardening Clear Coat. I painted them last night but I am not installing anything for a few days as my car is in the shop. Hopefully it turns out alright, I hope it doesnt chip much but it sounds like it may.

I used Krylon Glossy Black as well. Twice. The first time, I didn't sand/primer...no prep work whatsoever. Stupid idea. I've been painting car interiors for long enough that I should have known better! After a week I had countless chips in the damn thing. The second time around I did it properly...

- Sand/scuff the chrome - Primer - Wet sand - Primer - Wet sand - Paint - Paint again - Paint once more - Clear coat - Clear coat again - Dry that sucker for three whole days

Two months later and not a single scratch!Remember that painting is 95% prep work and 5% actual "painting".

Egh...I should've just bought some overlays............
