The wheels on my J have so much crap collected on them that I cannot seem to get off even when trying a pressure washer. I want them to look nice again and plan on trying Wurth silver wheel paint made for BMW and most BBS wheels. Just wondering if there is any way to remove all the crud without repainting the wheels and if not has anyone done this procedure before? Here are a couple of sites with information: http://www.robsaudiworld.com/wheelrepair.htm http://www.unofficialbmw.com/a....html Let me know what you think.

My 97 J30t wheels are still in good shape and are being used for winter. I currently put 98 Q45 wheels(16") on 225/50 Dunlop SP 5000. I have touched up nicks with silver paint but no major sections.

Car: should be obvious enough

if your wheels have minor oxidation or just old brake dust and tar stuck to them, and no gouges or big scratches, wheel paint is unneccessary, and is definitley less durable than the original finish.

you could try using simple green/ bug and tar remover / any solvent you can find to get the crud off. you can then clear coat/ and or wax the wheels to protect your new finish.

if i were you, i would just polish them instead of painting them.

paint will not look right on the J30 wheel because it has a directional radial brused texture and the paint will not. ( they will look really bland after painting them)

I know most dealerships carry wheel acid to clean the used cars they bring in and my local Infiniti dealer also uses this chemical called fallout that works really great without risking any paint damage.

If you want to do it right, have them powder-coated. They can be done in any color (metallic silver) or to match your car. They'll leave the rim (wheel lip) uncoated, and if it is highly polished, it looks super cool.

Qship has my old BBS rims on his Q and the lip was polished to a chrome-like finish.
