Does anyone know how to paint the dash or interior panels? What procedures and prepping does it take? What supplies would I need to use? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Locate Automotive Textile companies in your area. Most sell SEM brand dyes and prep. They come in a spray can, and when used properly with their plastic and vinyl prep products, work great.

Also Fusion Krylon plastic paint. Works pretty well. They sell it at ACE Hardware, and some other places.

There's an interior painting "how-to" somewhere, you just have to search, hehehe (was written before we had an interior forum)

Sorry Ummm.........No That stuff sucks I used it to paint something inside the altima and it chipped all to hell. Tryed 4 coats plus 3 coats of clear and looked ****ty. Get you some interior trim paint cost about $15.00 for a little *** spray can of it but it works great.

Yeah that too its not very cost effective....$5x9=$50.00 with tax....were as with the interior trim paint....$15x4=$70.00 with tax.......Tell me you wouldnt rather pay $20 more and have it last forever.....Krylon or whatever that stuff is sucks.....Now they are coming out with metal paint and wood paint and even little sprayers....LOL but whoevers doing is making a **** load.....So they can keep on but I wont have anything to do with it...

Chris

All I know is you guys helped me out. I was thinking about painting the dash kit for my 2000 maxima bc it has this grey flake / black copper something another scheme. I needed to paint the dash kit that is black to that color. I heard pep boys actually have the paint to match that kind of stuff but I really don’t know.

I painted the interior of my Golf using PPG paint; the only way to go. Well Dupont is just as good, anyway. We started by lightly sandblasting all the pieces; they were coated with something from the factory that the paint didn't like. Once we got all that stuff off my friend shot them with his gravity feed sprayer and three coats later we were done. I went without clearcoat for a dull finish. Two years later, no chips, no fading, no nothing. Spray cans aren't going to give you the results you want. You put in a half a$$ effort and you get half a$$ results.

I used acetone to clean it really good, and sprayed it with bulldog adhesion promoter, and used some vinyl spray ($4/can). door panels look great, like stock with armor all. no clearcoat, and I have TRIED to chip it and it wont. I didnt use the bulldog on the dash, and it did chip in a few spots. did the doors later, and they look much better.

Did you get the bulldog at the auto parts store or at an auto paint supplier?

Thinking about fiberglassing my dash due to cracks and painting it.

Remember though, when fiberglass dries and cures over the first few weeks it will shrink slightly.

I prepped all my plastic and vinyl with a strong alchohol, very light grit sp, then used the krylon. I've banged into it, scraped against it, left it out in the hot sun....nuthin. Been that way for a year. Its all in how you prep. If you do a half a** prep, you'll get half a** results. Try doin one piece and if you like the results go for it. If not, clean the can and return it Nobody will know... 1
