So im trying to clean my car up and im starting with my interior. I dont want to do anything crazy just make it look new. So i did a little looking and i read some where or another all i gotta do is sand down all the plastic, not with a rough sand paper. Then you put some lacquer once it drys your good to paint. Then a guy at my work said i should just primer and paint.....I just want to paint my black blacker because it has some bad sun bleaching and what not.

Yeah i've been wondering the same thing too.

There is a kind of paint called Fusion or something that works really well on plastics. If you clean thouroughly, sand with fine grit sandpaper, then clean again the paint should stick. If anything, read what it says on the can. The only thing is I wonder if any paint will actually hold up over time on surfaces that you touch every day. I painted the plastic panel around he shifter/radio and it turned out good, but I've never tried it on anything else. Also I was kind of uneasy about painting my perfect dash.

So yeah, has anyone painted their interior trim pieces? Did it hold up? What did you use?

The paint your talking about is Krylon Fusion. It's made for metals, plastics etc. Supposedly it's supposed to bond with the substrate you're spraying on to make it resistant against scratches.

I've used it before in my daily driver to paint some interior pieces black. I didn't sand anything, just used a cleaner on it before I sprayed. I've had it on for about 2 years now and it still looks fairly good. It has clear coat in it, and I've tried spraying another coat of clear over it afterwards and it turned out awful. I'd say go ahead and give it a shot, but make sure to use very thin even coats and allow a little time to dry inbetween coats, otherwise it will turn out badly.

I might have to test this out on a small piece first. Im skeptical since its just spray on.

Well most paint involves spraying somewhere, unless you want to try and brush it on I've also used dye before on some pieces, but it doesnt turn out glossy like most people want.

Er let me rephrase....Im skeptical because its no sanding or primer and comes in a can. But i bought a can just waiting for time to spray some on.

Use SEM Color Coat #15243 Satin Black. I cleaned all the interior panels with prepsol (anything that removes wax, grease, silicone).Let it dry, masked off what I did not want sprayed and painted. Light mist coats in different directions and it all looks brand new. I did dash, seat sides, center console and rear interior panels. Looks fantastic.

I used DupliColor for vinyl and fabric. It costs $5-6 from Pep Boys or WalMart. Did the whole interior with the exception of the carpet and it looks great. Guess summer will be the test, huh? Anyway, I cleaned everything with acetone or alcohol to get all the oils and stuff off, but I only primed the ashtray, which I painted with the regular DupliColor Enamel.
