Hey guys,

I am trying to repaint my rims that I bought a few months back.

They are the G35 forged and they are in decent condition.

But if I wanted to paint them to a different color, would I have to sand down the entire rim to primer them or is there a better way?

Yea. for them to last the longest time you should wet sand them, primer, and then paint. if you're looking for a quick way to do it, you could plastidip it and a lot of my friends did it and it came out pretty hot but you're only choice is a matte black lol. you're call though. with the plastidip all you have to do is make sure the wheel is really clean then paint over it. and if you don't like it..... peel it right off!!

haha yeah i had my previous rims plasti dipped but i was just fooling around with it. i'm also not going for black this time, maybe something similar to a SBC finish from enkei or bronze. if anyone else has any suggestions, let me know!

p.s. you said wet sanding, is there a difference between just sanding and wet sanding?

well wet sanding tends to be a lot easier as the paper doest die as easy, as well wet sanding doesnt cause uneven deep scratches and has a more even roughness. just make sure you get wet sand paper cuz if you get dry paper and then use it as wet it'll fall apart :dblthumb:

if you still wanted to use plastidip on them you can paint over plasti dip and still peel it off the same way. if you do go this route make sure the dip is fully dry before painting over it. i just love plasti dip so ive used it a decent amount (eye lids, badges, ect.) :yesnod

whatever you go with post up some final pics cus im thinking of painting my g37s rims and i dont know if i want gold, bronze, or black (im leaning to gold)

better way is powdercoating. otherwise, you'll want to sand and prime otherwise they will likely start to flake after some time. i recently painted my g35 rays gunmetal, lots and lots of sanding and wiping.

Oh I like that gunmetal look! I am also thinking of an SBC finish look as well. I guess if I add some gloss to it would do the job? Nice work on those rims though!

the rims have a couple coats of clear coat on them, though i didn't do a ton of wet sanding after the fact. i could get them to a higher gloss if i wanted, but i was happy with the look after a few light coats and a final heavy coat of clear
