I have a CF hood and I was wondering how carbon fiber body parts are supposed to be painted.

I'm sorry if this sounds dumb but,

Does it need to be sanded? Will primer stick to it?Or do you simply spray it with paint then finish with clear coat?

I'm curious because I've been thinking about getting my hood painted to match the car, and I want the shop to do it the right way.

well they are clear coated, so if you wax them the same as the rest of your body panels im thinking you would paint them the same way.

a shop should know how to do it and if they dont know then find a new shop!

I guess a reputable shop would know how to paint it, but unfortunately, I don't have the money to take it to one. The manager at Earl Scheib quoted me $100 for the hood and that's reasonable enough for me.

I think sanding will cause permanent scratches because the top part is made of plastic or should I say carbon fiber. Primer might work but I'm not sure if it will stick.

Okay, so how do I know that the shop knows what they're doing without knowing how it should be done? Just kidding :pface.
