Simple question-- Recently installed Volk AV3 wheels... the caliper is pretty dirty and ugly, What do you guys think about painting these? Is there a reason not to toss the rear dust sheild? That looks like crap too.

Not intrested in a 300zx swap or a bigbrake kit at this time. Just want the OEM stuff to look better

Paint em no problem, dust cover removal should not be a problem cause it would come off if you did a brake upgrade anyway.

so how do you guys clean the calipers before painting? I don't have access to a sand blaster. What other materials could I use to clean the rust off.

I recently got me a pair of front skyline calipers and rear ones as well I want to paint them black I took everything off pads, clips, etc. I see that you can unscrew them apart the whole caliper. My worry is the inside would I screw anything up? Any lookouts?

i cleaned mine with a wire brush then used some paint thinner. gas will also work. i would put at least 2 or 3 good coats of paint on.

from my experience with painting vw bug fanshroud parts, you dont want to prime if you're using high temp paint, the primer will burn out from under the paint....

yea thats true, just paint them with the brake caliper paint. most primer is not made for high temp, like the brake caliper paint is. just put a good thick coat on and make sure the calipers are nice and clean and you will be ok.

G2 brake caliper paint is good stuff. It's a little pricey $35-$40, but it works great and looks like they came that color. It also includes cleaner that you spray on and let sit or wire brush the calipers. It really looks good on my car and makes the calipers look much better.

Aries, if you go to my website you can see the calipers. It's not the greatest pic for seeing it, but you can atleast get an idea.
