About two weeks after having my brand new 09 altima 2.5 someone hit me while my car was parked. I tried painting it with the touch up paint offered by the dealer since a paint shop told me that the pint costs about $70 bucks here in NY. It didn't come out right, it's a small scratch so no big deal but basically I sanded down a small area, added primer, used a brush to add the paint then two layers of clear coat. Even though the color matches it doesn't look the same. I have that dark slate k50 paint, any ideas on what I did wrong?

Paint from a brush wont look the same as paint from a spraygun.

lol, too embarassed at my sucky effort. I used wetsand and compound .... maybe I did it wrong, I'll post a pic. But I think it was because I used the brush and not the spray .... I'll get that pic .... I figure the worse case I just get a bumper guard and cover over it =(

When using a touch up brush the color will always be darker than that on the car, specialy if there is matallic in it.

I thought the main difference would be the spray vs. brush effect. I hope I can add a touch up paint bottle to the spray gun cause a body shop guy told me it would cost $70 to get a pint of my paint ... =(

That cost would be true...but they don't have any other cars with that color around? Or something they could tint where you don't have to buy a whole pint.

But, to save from later complaints they would most likely paint the WHOLE bumper, so a lot of extra paint would be needed when compaired to the "bare minimum".

And if some other joker hit you...was it a hit and run? Make him pay the costs!!!
