Proper? Oh, you mean spray painting them and taking a wire wheel to the letters? Or were you talking about a different right way?

The covers are first stripped of all paint. Then they are sanded first with 150, then 300 grit. Next, the insides are degreased, and al oil and sludge or anything else is removed. After that, the entire valve cover is thoroughly cleaned with a liquid also made by the same company as the paint stripper I use. After that, 3 thin coats are applied, aproz 2 minutes between eachother. When the last coat is tacky, 3 more heavy coats are applied, each after the other becomes tacky. If the customer does not desire a gloss finish, the last coat is not applied as thick. When paint is dry, I run 150, 300, then 600 grit sandpaper over the raised surfaces until a nice brushed look is acomplished. If you have any other questions, please post them or send me an email at [email protected]

*Sorry about that reply from before. I was tied up and didnt have too much time. I should have let you guys know that then instead of upsetting you. I apologize.

I already have mine done, but I just wanted to say that the first pic looks EXACTLY like my valve cover, same color scheme (red/aluminum) and same Nismo oil cap. Wow.

Ok, on that link to the other forum, there is a black and red paint job. How do you keep the black paint underneath while putting red paint on the top?

Hehe Im a pro. j/k... One must think to himself: When using two colors, what would be easier to mask before applying the second color? I did the red first, then masked it when it was dry. Honestly it wasnt easy. I actually had to charge the customer a little more. Well, when the red was all masked, I applied the black coat. Just before the black was too dry, I removed al the masking, and there you see the finished product. Hehe Im a pro. j/k

Nice, man. What is your method of masking with something like this, masking tape over the top stripes w/ an exact-o knife? And for the black you just painted right over the red that was already on the top?

Let me know man, that's some good stuff.

You got it right. I didnt paint the black ofer the red, I painted it over the masking that was over the red. Im sure you knew that but I was just clarifying.
