Being as I'm a cheap bastard, I'm strongly considering painting my stock wheels. Would that even look good? HmI'm not really digging the way they look now ~ I was thinking a flat blackish or gun metal paint.

Has anyone here done this that can provide any general tips or "do's and don'ts"?

Someone have any good pics they can post?

Thanks in advance

Years ago i powdercoated my 7 spokes. The white lines you see is from the reflection , they were shiny as hell.

I had a 2 meshies that i orderd from ebay that were'nt the right lug pattern so i traded the powdercoating place the wheels and like $80 to do my 7 spokes. Waste of money.

Rattle can FTW...see sig.

Best way to do it , is to get painters tape , and tape off the tire (if not dismounted) and tape off the valve stem. Sand the wheels , and wash /clean before paint. The temp is gonna have to be more then 70 i think or the piant will just run/bubble. Wait for the paint to dry before you handle them. Hold the can 10-12" away from the wheel , and go back and forth. Dont hold the can in one spot. Multiple light coats work the best.

I tried that crappy DupliColor wheel paint and it sucks. I went and bought Rustoleum engine enamel and it turned out fine. You gotta remember wheels get hot from the brakes.

Look at the thread I just created. I painted mine silver. Tires dismounted, rough sanded, wet sanded, rattle canned silver, rattle canned clear, tires mounted, installed.

I'm gonna polish my SE's this winter. There's a thread I made with a pic of them in a mirror finish. Looks good for stock wheels IMO.

another thing that sometimes works better than taping off the tires if ur not dismounting, is to smear a layer of grease over teh tire. after painting wipe it off and ur set

Prep work it key.

Don't waste your money powdercoating them, it's expensive and if you chip it you can't fix it yourelf.

chrome FTW haha j/p but i agree with a semi-dark silver, gun metal may come out a little dark unless you prefer the stealth look.
