For anyone who has painted their front chrome moustache, have you had any problems with the paint not sticking or flaking off over time. I went get my satin white mixed today at the bodyshop and they told me that I'd regret the desicion because even with proper prep, the paint just won't stick. They said that any stone chip or any time I take my car to the pressure washer, the paint will clip and flake. I thought that painting the chome stache was going to be my way out, but I might have to reconsider.

sand it, prime it, sand it then paint it

Yep. Paint wont stick to the chrome looking stuff. Gotta sand it good first.Prime it and then the paint should stick.

I thought that too and even said that I planned on multi-coats with sanding between layers, and a clearcoated finish and was told that it wouldn't matter. They said that even if I was to sand it down to bare plastic, and evey piece of chrome off, that something happens to the plastic when they put the chrome look on that prevents anything from sticking.

If you paint it, after you sand it, make sure you use some adhesion promoter like bulldog. It'll make the paint stick a lot better

I painted mine using Krylon Fusion paint. Turned out okay, there are some chips in it but it really isnt noticable till you get really close.

I took my car into the shop to have my mustache painted along with my Stillen Front Lip and he interestingly enough didn't sand, prime and paint like most people have mentioned. He actually sprayed a Rhino Lining (like they do for truck beds) and then sanded that down to smooth it, and then painted over that. He said it was faster than sanding down the actual plastic chrome and it looks amazing in my opinion and I've had no chipping problems.

I'll try and snap a photo tonight and post it online.

First place I went to said the same thing. I think they didn't want such a minor job.

Second place did it for $65 and it has help up perfectly for almost 3 month now. It's the best thing I did for my black coupe and was worth every penny.

No they aren't. The US has seven colors, us Canadians only have six choises and I know first hand that the satin white (CDN) has a slightly different code then the Winter Frost (US). I was told it's close but just different enough to show.

True. It's a real pain in the A$$ - I can't even get a touch up pen b/c they only have the US codes - Kinda stupid if you as me. That's why I need to get my own paint mixed for the 'stache.

I had mine painted when my front bumper was hit in a parking lot back in July. It's holding up well! I think the lasting factor would be how its prepped for paint.

When I got my front lip spoiler painted... the body shop buy said he would paint the 'stach for me... but he wouldn't warranty the work.

So I chickened out.
