Hi guys, I had some paint issues with my Rogue right from the factory, there were some paint defects which were fixed november last year by a reputable body shop paid by nissan. Most of the left side and roof was painted (both doors and rear quarter panel). However, they forgot to do one spot near the fuel door which they recently did and did a good job overall. However, they also painted the fuel door as well when they painted the right rear quarter panel. On the fuel door, there is one spot right in the middle which is like someone almost hit with a center punch. paint is still there but just this small dimple you could say. I took it yesterday back to the body shop and one of the techs looked at it and said that it was a fisheye. whatever that is, now, i'm confused if i should get that fixed. I'm sure they will fix it if i tell them it bothers me. but I don't want to leave my car there for the whole day. Is it possible to just take off the fuel door and leave it with them and let them paint it and then install it back once it's done. Also, is there a way to detach the small plastic wire that's attached to the fuel cap? please advise. thanks.

Yes, you can detach the plastic wire from the fuel cap. You will need a pocket screwdriver, be very gentle by working your way around the fuel cap by gently prying it out around the circumference of the cap. This is how I removed the cap from my 2011 to replace it with a lockable one. I would suggest to have them fix the fuel door as this is unacceptable, as you got the vehicle new. Take out the fuel door have them repaint it then have them install it back.

I was given a loaner the first time and a rental the second time and I was surprised when I saw the fisheye defect on the fuel door as the shop of their caliber should of inspected it after being done. I catched it right away, however, by that time the rental had gone back and I didn't want to create a big fuss about it, i did bring it to the attention of the shop foreman though. This is a very expensive body shop called Mitek Fine Auto, these guys charge like double what other good bodyshops charge.

I'm thinking of taking the fuel door off and I see there are two star screws holding it in place. Is the position of the fuel door adjustable, will it be hard to put back on? are there any fine adjustments needed or is everything pretty much aligned when you put it back and tighten the two star screws? I just don't want to find out that aligning the door back is hard and screw up anything in the process or scratch up surrounding area.

I am not sure if the fuel door is adjustable. I would suggest to mark around the star screws with white out or something similar. Then take out the screws then the fuel door then take it to the body shop to have it painted. Let me know how it went.
