Something hit the hood of my car pretty hard today, and it left a very noticable mark. I can't tell if it has gone down to bare metal (the damaged area it looks kind of greyish white and the car is KR4 grey so I can't tell if what I'm seeing is paint, primer, or metal), but if it has gone through the paint will I be in danger of rust starting if I wait a week to touch it up? I can't get a paint marker until next week (had to order one).

If you're worried about rust and can't paint it yet, grab a grease pen (or just some heavy grease) and cover the exposed area. It won't look too hot but will protect the bare metal.

This is probably a really stupid question, but what does bare metal look like? I'm not sure how deep this chip has gone.

Sort of light metallic gray. Probably is indeed hard to tell from your paint and primer.

Yeah, my car is a light metallic grey. Guess I'll never be sure. I may have to see if the dealer can overnight the paint to me, I want to get this taken care of ASAP.
