OK let me Begin with I AM SORRY YOU GOT A MAACO PAINT JOB, You will be too soon.

And I hope that when they painted the car they covered up EVERY RUBBER SEAL and anything else that shouldn't have been painted. I say that because I had a 1991 Q45 with a sun roof water leak and it was a hardened sun roof gasket/seal. And the rest of the car was black too, you name it it was black on the out side because of MAACO.

So when you decide to paint the pillars I would see a small local shop with a old (Experienced) owner who owns it and does the work himself.

They're pretty easy to pull once the inside trim is removed and they're small enough that if you owned a spray gun you could probably set up a paint booth and drying room in your garage....or you could drop them off at a paint shop for a few days.

Doesn't someone on ebay sell a laminate for the pillars?

vinyl overlays are pretty common practice for oem's. easy to apply, reversable, and cheap. i've recently grown fond of trim paint for it's excellent adhesion but it's a matte finish and it's permanent(ish). a base/clear paint job is another (more expensive) option.

good luck with that maaco paint job. seems like everyone knows to stay away yet they still do business,

You might want to wait on that... at least the waxing job. I would suspect that the paint will need more time to fully cure. I would check with the painter about it to be sure...

I have often thought that you could get a decent paint job at Maaco if you did the prep work and masking yourself.

On the pillars, are you talking about the ones between the front and back door? If so, they're plastic - at least on my '90 - so painting them and getting the paint to stick may be very difficult.

Good luck!

Thing is i reasearched the whole "Maaco sucks" idea and realized that its pretty likely that i would be another sucker with them but I figured hey at least I know what Im getting plus i get a real warranty and not just some guys word saying that if the paintjob sucks he'll re-do it. Turns out the pain did start peelin within the first six months so i took it bak about 3 weeks ago. They kept my car for 2 weeks which pissed me off and they stole my subwoofer out my trunk! long story!! but n e way I paid a 1000 for the paintjob and it could b worse.

I took a walk outside to my car and pulled off the pillars which came off pretty easily. Ill take em to a paintshop 2m and see what happens.
