just curious...

how much, on average, do y'all think it would cost to completely repaint the Z a different color?

would it cost less to repaint it the same color?

I'm not interested in this now, but I might be in 4 years or so when it's paid off and has around 100,000 miles on it. paint MAKES a car.

Her in Louisiana about $3000 to $5000 for a good paint job +door seals. A little less for the same color.

Black nailed it on the head. 5000-7500 for a high quality professional job.

that's freaking ridiculous...paint shops must make a killing. anything over 3 grand, you might as well buy a new car.

LOL hmm...trade my perfectly good car for another perfectly good car. Oh and don't forget the 7500 I'm going to spend on that new car. Oh ****, I have spent more money now. DAMMIT.

Paint shops don't make a KILLING, they make enough to survive. Notice you can go to maco and go get a shoddy job done for around 350. Go to a professional shop where you'll get a show-quality dripping-wet look paint, and expect to pay for it.

well I'm taking into account the fact that by the time you need a new paint job, your Z should have well over 100,000 miles on it by then...therefore, your Z probably won't be worth much more than what a paint job would cost at that point. it's not worth getting it repainted with the engine having that much wear on it unless you bought a new engine too...then you'd be looking at nearly 10 grand or so.

moral of the story:

unless you have plenty of cash to blow, paint jobs are a rip off...buy a new car if your car is at the point to where it needs to be repainted.

True for factory paint. A good paint job that's properly maintained should hold up for quit a bit longer...

Same thing for an engine, 100k is nothing.

I've seen paint jobs go up to $25k It was insane NICE! It takes great time and skill to do a perfect paint job. It was done on a 50 merc. chop top. You get what you pay for! $3k-$7k should get you a real nice job (depending on whos doing it) But there are way better and way more expensive paint jobs out there. What you should just do is wait till nissan comes out w/ another color you like and trade in for it. Unless you are going to dump $1000's into your car unless you ARE DOING THE WHOLE THING INTO A SHOW CAR.

if your going to repaint spend the money to have it done right. You dont want a macco paint job where they paint over all your window trim and it peels off in 8 months do you? my friend owns a shop and does paint work i was amazed how many steps go into just mixing the paint. here is a pic of my friends girlfriends ford fusion that he painted...he painted the gummetal stripe then painted over it with prismatic hue cost of paint alone was close to 300 dollars he would have charged close to 800 to do this for a customer

Highlight, underscore, bold and whatever else Shylynn put, that is the truth and that is all there is to do with it. And anyway why would anyone want to degrade a Z with a Macco paint job. Uhh. Should not own one if you want cheap stuff on it. Nissan is ranked in the top 5 in Sports car design,(out of everyopne), and 2nd in V6 engine design, I think the little Z deserves to be kept up properly.
