I was searchin around the internet for 240 stuff, and I came across this car...I really like the finish on it. Its not primer flat, and its not high gloss... semi-gloss, I guess. I like it. It's different. the guys cardomain page shows progressive pics, showing where he sanded it down, but it goes from sanded to that without any mention of what kind of paint he used or anything. He didnt respond to my email either. How could I get my car this finish of black? heres the page, btw...http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/606487

exactly as you mentioned its Satin Black. Its a profesional Primer used for models that you intend to leave flat black ie: retro old school look

deff looks hot... pricey paint as you can imagine, but not as much as a mettalic or custom of course

in all honesty ive seen another satin paint job done by earl sheib. if prepped properly (by yourself) it can turn out really nice and isnt too costly on the pocketbook

well, i'd definately be the only person in my area with a satin black car. I think I'm going to try and get some quotes. Whats involved in prepping a car to be painted?Keep in mind I have 0 experience with body work. none.

I do believe there are two types of paint. One that has the clearcoat, ie newer cars, and that old cars that don't have the clearcoat.

The clearcoat servers to protect. Without it everytime you wash it, polish it, clay it and wax it some of the paint will come off. That is why they cake paint on there. Now keep in mind that it doesn' wash off... at the end of the wash/polish/wax your rag might be the color of the car. The older it gets, the more and more will come off.

Just FYI:

would you want to wax a car with that finish? Don't you wax it to protect and shine the clearcoat? And as long as I use something to wash it thats not abrasive and doesn't soften the paint (like dawn), would it really come off? Not tryin to argue, I just really don't know.

And wickedpelf, I agree. On all points. lol

I would most definitely want to wax that finish. You need SOMETHING to protect the car. The point of waxing a car with clearcoat is to make it shine and add another layer of protection.

In your case you would want to wax it to keep the paint looking good and protect the paint and car from the elements.

I mean, you don't have to wax it if you don't want to and depending on where you live it may be all together a different story, but where I live... boy that sun will eat your car alive without any protection.

Oh ok... I understand. You'll have to excuse my ignorance. My first few cars were total beaters, and my last car was a 03 civic which I took care of, but not to any great lengths, because I Hated it... which is why I got the 240.

Prepping isnt too hard, just make sure the finnish is smooth... (bondo'd dents etc) & sanded of course (grit varys), so that the paint will bond. but be sure you wash the car with a non silicone soap to prep the car and right before applying paint be sure to wipe the entire car body down with a tack cloth

i dont know if that black will have this problem but i know a lot of the flat or semi-gloss blacks that are on hotrods do have one downside...the oils on your hand will mark it up causeing the spots where you touch to be shiney...once the oil is on there i have heard that its really hard to get off. if you can live with that it's an awsome paint job

thats the beauty of satin finnish, if its a professional hot rod style finnish it shouldnt absorb moisture like primer... b/c it isnt

its desighned to be kept at that finnish, but thats why it costs more than primer

well thats spray paint, its satin paint and yes it would work but it wont look the same as the photo cause that S13 ^^^ looks to be painted with a paint gun since their no ghosting or spots in the paint
