Some friends of mine who are getting into professional body work are going to spray my car for me. I want to keep it white, but I don't want clear coat. So here is what I am thinking: white primer with a little bit of pearl in it. Any thoughts?

My friend just did a white with 3 coats of blue pearl on his S14...it's white, but in certain light, it's got a hint of blue reflection. It's a matter of personal opinion - but it is a $4000 paint job.I personally think it looks good though...he even painted the interior trim the matching color.

Rico why dont you want a clear coat? Have you ever seen paint before a clear coat...? Its rough :). I painted a fender and it was horrible before its clear coat. We are about to paint 2 cars and im planning on 2-3 coats of clear because clear just gives it the nice shiney look.

Pearl paint looks the best in my opinion. But I also recommend getting the clear coat. I work at a body shop and we suggest that a lot. that way we can give our lifetime warranty. Without a clearcoat it fades and can damages faster.

I was going to do Krylon flat black, but since SCC beat me to it, I am thinking white since I like the look of my car in white. I HATE shiney paint. Dunno, I just like flat colors on cars. Like I said in my orginal post, we are just doing flat white primer. I have seen cars done in flat black with pearl in the paint, so I was wondering about white. This is a drift b|tch, not a pretty boy car. My money is in the stuff that stops, truns, and goes not in how well the car would do at HIN;)

BTW: My trunk, rear bumper and front bumper end caps are all different colors of white spray paint now anyway;)

not to hijack the lovely thread, but im in a similar dilemma except it deals with a body kit. hasnt been painted b/f but i wanted to know my options on painting it. seems like places will charge an arm and leg but cannot guarantee the matching of the color to my car. i have the gold color from 91-94 and i dont want to paint the entire car.

you can get the spray paint kind at pep boys or autozone, somewhere like that. I think here its 16dollars a can. but of course like you said getting it to matcha good paint shop should be able to match the color for you. I dont see why they cant
