My wife's 2004 G35 has 17,000mi, however it's paint appears to be developing areas that are pitted with small specks going all the way through the paint. Initially we thought it was limited to 1 or 2 areas and caused by some sloppy tire work recently performed, perhaps some coresive chemicals somehow smeared on the car. I would almost say the paint appears to be desolving. The pitting is becoming much broader in scope, almost like verticle strokes several inches long. Has anyone encountered this problem? TIA

Welcome to NICO!

Sorry to hear of this problem, I recall some similiar postings about people complaining about the paint job, personally I thing Infiniti cheaped out with their choice in paint. I'll do some digging and see what I can come up with for ya!

Pitting is generally going to occur with contact, usually from rocks getting kicked up. Keep in mind that these water based paints that are more eco-friendly are not as strong as the oil based paints that used to be sprayed on cars long ago. So rock chips are much more common than they used to be. Since a majority is usually on the front bumper and maybe the hood area, a clearbra is a pretty good investment. When I sold my G, I had only a few minor ships where the clearbra didn't quite cover, but the rest of it was pristine. The vertical strokes sounds like something else as well. Be weary of who you park next to and even the things you or any other drivers or passengers carry with them as they get in and out of the car. Even wearing a jacket with a zipper can cause scratches if you're not careful.

As far as the dissolving, it does sound like it's a separate issue and perhaps somekind of chemical got on it.
