So my car came with riced out tailights. Some previous owner watched too much F&F and decided he wanted the 240 too look like a FD. He painted the tailights black while leaving circles unpainted. (Interestingly enough, the guy also changed the license plate bulbs to green color.)

My job now is to de-rice-ify those tailights. I'm not knowledgeable with paint, so I have no idea what kinda of paint the guy used.

How to I get rid of the black paint without damaging the tailight surface???

You might try nail polish remover first. It is strong enough to remove the paint without taking the red off the lights (I think) Might want to test in an inconspicuos area first. I tried some heavy duty paint remover once and it started to eat through the plastic. Ahhh!!!

you could sand off the paint, course then work your way down to really fine, then buff. or just go on ebay and buy some used lights. they're not much
