HOW MUCH WOULD YOU SAY IT WOULD COST TO GET MY ENTIRE J PAINTED OVER. 1ST THE CAR IS CURRENTLY GREEN I WANT TO PAINT IT BLACK. 2ND I DON'T WANT IT TO LOOK CHEAP....BUT AT THE SAME TIME I DON'T HAVE SHOW ROOM FINISH MONEY.

ANYONE EVER REPAINT THEIR ENTIRE CAR.....?

With body work you get what you pay for unless you get ripped off. A nice paint job is going to cost you.

If the car doesn't need any body work (ie rust and dents) it just needs a scuff, cleaning and spray. The problem with black is it will show EVERY defect in the surface. I would never paint a car black without spending many hours blocking and sanding in the primer stage but I'm very picky.

You can save a lot of money doing most of the prep work yourself but it is VERY labor intensive and if you aren't used to doing hard work you'll quit in no time. Also you need to do some research before trying your hand at body work so you don't make a turd of the car by doing a terrible job.

You're best bet is to get some quotes near you as prices can differ greatly from other parts of the country. Ask around where you live, see if you can get a hold of any car clubs and see who they recommend etc.

well, i went to a body shop last fri, and asked for an estimate. the guy comes out, and he is like, what year is it. "93". how many miles "106,000". "hmm" "let me look at it". so i point out the many dents, scratches, and stuff. He says the whole car will cost you a couple grand. He says it isnt worth it since its so old and ****. But idc since its my $$$, but i cant do it now since i dont have that money. IM just getting basic stuff now (tint, HID's, exhaust)

If you are willing to spend a coup[le of grand on a paint job why not sell your present car, throw in an extra thousand, and buy one that doesn't need a paint job. The original paint on my 94 J30T with 192,000 miles on it still looks new and there isn't a ding on it. One small scratch where someone keyed it. The paint on j30s is extremely high quality, similar to or even better than a Volvo. I can probably sell it now for almost as much as I paid for it four years ago.

OMG HAY GUYZ I HAVE MY CAPS ON CAN U HEAR ME OK???! GUD CUZ I USED PUNCTUATION BE4......... AND WANTED U ALL TO SEE TAHT........... KTHXBAI

It's a waste of money to paint a J30 if you ask me. The paint will cost/be worth more than the car. Unless you get seriously hooked up and score a decent paint job on the cheap, why bother?

Not to mention a color-change paint job will cost way more than just a respray. And if you don't have the money for a 'show room finish', you won't be able to afford a color change. Think about a sexy black car, orange-peel paint everywhere, maybe a run or two, and then green door jambs and a green engine bay to top it off. That'll look awesome with my wood-with-holes cupholder. I guess if your curtains are green you could pull it off... (Couldn't help it nala, just messing with ya )

I dunno, man. You have lowish miles for a '93. 110,000 miles isn't 'very low miles', though. Think about what else you could buy with $3-4k. I know it seems like it to you, but having a shiny car really isn't that important. There are so many better things to spend money on.

You're going to waste $3000+ painting your car, just so you can sell it for $3000 instead of $2500 as it is now? Hmm... sounds a lot like a waste of $2500 to me.

ya i drive now, and my parents make me pay for gas (50 a week). And i actaully might save the car, im not sure. Since if I did sell it, it probably would be treated like crap because of its age. Its a good car to.

The best time to get a estimate on a paint job is the fall (especially before the snow starts flying). Most bodyshops aren't busy till the first snowstorm of the year (where a lot of people get into fender benders becuase they've forgotten how to drive on snow and ice). Spring and summer are the worst times to get estimates. Most reputable body shops are busy and their skilled paint guys have sheduled summer vactions or vacation days, as a result they give some inflated estimates.
