First of all, I understand how broad of a question this is, but about how much would it cost to get a decent paint job for a 2003 g35 coupe?

Edit: I want a color change

My guess is around 2-3k for a decent job.

I would just buy a new car in the colour you want, you'll never get as good as factory.

I was quoted $1800 just to paint black stripes on the hood, roof and trunk of a Mustang. I'd say that you are in a neighborhood north of 3000 to get a good one, and probably another 500 to 1000 for a color change (they have to paint jams, inside the hood, trunk, etc. I'm guessing here though.

The factory paint sucks...my 98 Ford Explorer with 115,000 miles has less chips in the paint than my G that has at 12,500. Scratches and rust, well that's a given.

Not all G's have that problem...

I have heard quite a few red owners having probs with the paint, so maybe its worse on that colour.

I was told by my body guy that to do it right, it would be about $5000. He also stated that he is a picky bastard and that I could get a hatchet job from MACCO for about $2000
