I know this is pretty dumb but I just bought my set of one piece s13 side skirts and I'm trying to rattle can it for right now. I thought I knew what I was doing but apparently I don't. I have a 91 burgundy colored hatch, pretty sure it's a very very common color. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me what paint to use to make it look as close to the factory color as possible. I tried using a Duplicolor paint from Pep Boys but for some reason the color isn't coming out the way I thought it would. Also I'm using a black primer as a base coat.

Any help or comments would help, while I'm waiting for the primer to dry.

use grey build-up primer then look on your vin plate in the door jamb, find the paint code, then go to your local parts store and 1) get one of those useless little crappy duplicolor touch up cans(or 5) OR 2) go to napa tell them your paint code get a quart of color and a clear kit probably $50 and a cheap hvlp spray gun(northern tools, local store, or harbor freight) set up some sawhorses and spray...easy

^ probably only need 6 max. and dont use primer. just get krylon not the cheap stuff. get satin not gloss or flat, it wont look like crap. should turn out ok if you know anything about spraying a car.

Here ya go, surprised nobody knew about this stuff...

Find your color here (somewhere on page 43):

https://www.duplicolor.com/color_selection.pdf

And then go here and read up on this product:

http://www.duplicolor.com/products/autospray.html

Then go here and find the part number on the list, call, order:

http://usautopaint.com/sitebui...r.htm

Don't forget to clear coat, but that's easy enough to find.

There is a auto paint supply store close to me that can put custom paint colors into spray cans. My dad got one for this door he touched up.

That stuff posted above is pretty cool, might have to get some of that depending on the price difference of that and the place by my house.

^Duplicolor makes such a large volume, that the cans above I found for around $7.

The Duplicolor paint chart really helps. Here are some pics of the outcome, like I said it came out pretty close but about 2 shades darker than the factory color but all in all it's ok. I'm planning on repainting the entire car soon but I want to start enjoying the body pieces that I'm putting together right now... a little impatient, I know. Now I'm looking for the Origin rear and I'll probably paint it the same way until the summer.

Oh yeah, and I did apply 2 coats of clear but I haven't wet sanded and buffed it yet. Probably do that on a much warmer day, it's like 28 degrees in Dallas... craziness.

Yeah I agree, I guess now I have a quick tip to anyone wanting to rattle can body pieces to this color s13. I used black primer and Cherry Red Pearl duplicolor with clear. Next time I would suggest using Dark Gray primer instead of black, I'm almost 100 percent certain that the outcome would be almost a perfect match. I plan on trying this whenever I get my rear bumper.

Sad. They don't have Platinum Blue Metallic/Platinum Ice Metallic for two tone coupe. But they have the Dark Grey though.

Hey does anybody have any suggestions on getting the eyesore in the door??? It's basically a couple of little dings surrounding a crushed section of aluminum...haha (all of the dings and carnage came with the car courtesy of the previous owner). But my question is do you think I could possibly bang out a major portion of this ding??? Or is bodywork and paint the only option?

See if you can get to it from behind...Take the door panel off and you should be able to get to it. If you aren't able to get to it which i doubt will be a problem then you'll probably have to go another rout...

Imo, I almost feel like the dark gray primer might still be too dark...

As for those dings, the ones that are in the center of the door you won't be able to hammer out cause of the door support thing that's in the way (if im not mistaken). As for the crushed area...I guess you could try to tap that/those out, but it might be easier to use a dent puller. Just my .02 cents.

It's got some pretty good wrinkles that you'll never get too nice without body work or replacement...
