The top of my 2006 350Z dulls a few days after waxing. I tries rubbing it out first, but not much better. I live in South Carolina with lots of sun. Do you think the clear coat has worn through. Any ideas on how to keep it shinning?

Thanks,
Artie

Just a couple questions:

1) Where in SC are you from?
2) Are you tried waxing in a shaded/cool area?
3) What kind of wax are you using? (Brand and type)

I live in Murrells Inlet it is close to the Ocean. It has been very hot. I wax before the sun hits it. I have been using Meguiars Gold Class Liquid. The rubbing compond is Turtle wax.

Try to describe "dulling" to us. It's pretty difficult to remove clear coat without removing the basecoat. Either you would be losing all of it, or it would start bubbling and falling off (more or less). Clearcoat doesn't really dull anymore. And if it did, it would certainly take longer than four years. Any chance you can try to get a picture of what you're talking about?

Why are you using rubbing compound on it? Is it just the roof or are the other parts seeing the same problem like the hood? We need pictures.

It is just the top. It dulls in small sections after I wax. I used rubbing compound yesterday to see if there may have been tree sap or something else on the paint. After the rubbing compound I waxed and the shine came back. Today I am starting to see the dull spots return. I will get some pics tomorrow.

Thanks for your help,
Artie

1. Stop using rubbing compound. You shouldnt be using it routinely on a four year old car.
2. You can try to bring it back with TR3 Resin. Google it or get it off ebay.

Isn't that just a cleaner wax?

Rubbing compound should never be used by a amateur, Always start with the least abrasive polish and move on up.
