I had my G20's front bumper cover replaced about 8 months ago due to a minor incident. Now I find that the paint is disintegrating like hell! Whoever painted this bumper did a really crappy job. I don't know about you, but I don't think 8 month old paint should look like this:

What should I do about this? I've kept this paint clean, washed and waxed ever since I got the work done, so there's been no neglect of the paint. It just fell apart, and I'm pissed as hell about it.

They didn't put in enough (or probably any) "flex additive" in the paint. The bumper flexes more than you think when you are driving and regular paint doesn't unless the flex additive is put in. Some shops try to save money by not putting it in.

So they should redo the paint job or pay to have it redone?

Sometimes the additive is called an elastomer. It allows teh paint to flex on non-rigid surfaces.

I actually don't think I did wax it within 30 days now that I look at my records. According to my receipts the job was done about a year ago (not 8 months like I thought, either way the paint shouldn't look like this) which means it was the middle of winter, ergo no waxing. So I'm clear in that regard. I had my car vandalized about the same time last year and had to have some work done on the roof for that....got mixed up with the dates...not that it makes a difference. At least I have all the records.

Either way, the waxing is irrelevant.

Someone owes you a repaint.
