paint damage?

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Parked my car under a tree the other day and came back to a few black droppings on the car. After washing them, this is what is left on the paint. How do I remove these? I hope they are not permanent.

I'd try a Clay Bar.

I tried an eyeglasses cleaner (small bottle) at Walmart eye center to clean sap from trees. It wiped off pretty easily if you spray it and leave it for 3-5 minutes. I really do not know what`s in it, but it works quicker and cleaner than GOO GONE!

Yucko.... are those spots raised, or are they etched in?

It's been a few days, have you managed to clean them up?

Thanks for the feedback. It is not sap. Had it washed earlier this week, and then used a clay bar with Meguiar's detailer, but the stains are still there as yellowish spots on the paint. They are not raised, but feel smooth and perfectly level with the paint. I guess the clear coat was stained or discolored by whatever crap that was. I'll try more aggressive options this weekend like an abrasive polish. The paint itself is "self-healing" but I doubt these would heal if I leave it alone :)

Did this problem ever go away? My g has white paint and has had yellowish stains before, but those seemed to fade in direct sunlight after a while.

I tried claybar, and then compound. The spots faded a bit afterwards but still visible if you look closely. I was going to take it to a paint shop to get them fixed but maybe I should wait a bit more and see if they go away by themselves.

This is how it looked after claybar and before compound. Compound blended them a bit more:

Hmm. It's kind of like an inkblot test. I see 2 rabbits holding a flat screen TV.

Any update? Based on my experience, claybar and polishing compound can remove those yellow stains so I'm curious about your paint problem.

Just to give an update on this. As jmann suggested, I decided to use the wait and see approach, and indeed the spots fade overtime and are almost completely gone now. Probably winter is slowing things a bit but looks like the self-healing paint is not a complete hoax :)

White paint is the new black i guess so paint maintenance should remain a priority.
Sometimes brake dust especially on a white car can find its way ''imbedded'' in the car's paint surface but it does not seem to be your case...
Whatever it is likely acidic bird poop; i would strongly suggest you see a profesionnal detailer/bodyshop for advise the sooner the better
Regardless it should be completely buffed up and i would assume that it would be highly unlikely that as the clear coat is not affected. I am confident a profesionnal will carefully went sand the affected area and then buff, polish and seal the paint ideally the whole car to bring back the shine, depth and protecting the paint
