It is common, Nissan wont help you. My Q was FLAWLESS for all these years and a year n a half ago I notice a tiny bubble over my front fender...the year after the rust exploded. The QX4's have plastic wheel arches over the fender...road salt had accumulated in there over the years and now all 4 of my fenders are deteriorating from under that plastic. Only the 1 fender shows the rust but the rest will soon if it isnt fixed.

Such bulletproof rides but horrible for rusting. Also keep an eye out for your rear hatch, the 97-00 ALL get rusty right under the window, yours should be fine though.

such a shame that nissan wont take responsibility. My plan for this summer is to go through and find a shop that will take care of all that and all the scratched and cosmetic things on my pathfinder. I plan on keeping it till it wont go anymore and i want it to look nice lol
thanks.

It will last forever if you keep the body in reasonable shape. My QX4 is a 99, I've owned it since 2006..had 56,000kms, now it has 190,000kms which isnt much for these but its been trouble free the entire time. The only expensive maintenance it ever required is the Timing belt/water pump at 160k...but you have the 3.5L engine so you have a timing chain, even more trouble/maintenance free.

I believe it's the road salt that's gets melted in snow.
While you are driving during the winter days,
that rust causing mixture sneaks into the spaces between your fender and car paint.
If it stays there for too long,
it penetrates in and causes crumbles in the metal side of your paint and cause it to bloat up.
