I know there are many of you that are considering HPDE. Although there are no special requirements needed for your car, there are a lot of items you'll want to bring with you. I just compiled a list of what I usually bring. Please feel free to add or comment: The list looks long, but it all actually fits in my Z. and 350Z luggage space is not that great It's not the end of the world if you don't have or bring everything. You'll find a lotta friendly enthusiasts at HPDE's that would be more than happy to loan you things, like a floor jack or torque wrench or help you with minor repairs, like changing brake pads.
Here we go:
Torque Wrench (and right sized socket for your wheel lug) Be sure to check your owners manual for the correct torque)Tire gauge. (don't skimp, get a nice one)Extra motor oil (1 or 2 qts)brake fluid (1 container)Coolant (1 gallon)Jumper cableswheel chocks (I made mine out of wood, Remember you can't use your parking brake between sessions or you risk your pads welding to the rotor.Floor jack: optional (I'll bring one if I don't bring a canopy).Extra set of brake pads. owners manualsmall first aid kitCar wash bucket, sponge, car wash soap, and chamois. The car will get dirty, especially brake dust on the front wheels, dead bugs, and bits of rubber marks.Windex (you want clean window for this stuff)Paper towelsspare ragsGarbage bag (you might have dirty stuff and no garbe can nearbyIce scraper, if this a cold weather eventumbrella (in case it rains and you're in the paddockPlastic Tarp, to keep your stuff off the dirt/grass/ and covers everything if it rains.old blanket (for crawling udnerneath your car)Duct tape, electical tape, headlight tape, and scotch tapesingle edge razor blade (for removing the temporary #'s off your windows after it's over latex ruber gloves (in case you tinker with car)hand clearner (in case you forgot where you put your latex gloves)small flashlightbungee cordshatsunglassessunscreen basic tool kit (wrenches, screw drivers, etc)aspirin/pain medication, (if you're outta shape, you'll feel stiff a few hours after the adrenaline wears off.lawn chair (foldable of course), paddocks are big open lots/fields.Cooler with ice (ice came invery handy for me this summer when I got stung by a bee on my ring finger in the paddock)Plenty of water/gatorade for the cooler. Skip the soda and carbonated stuff. It's important to stay hydrated.Lug nut locks. Lotsa of cars have one lug per wheel that has a special pattern, make sure you know where that special pattern socket is.Pen and paper (i normally swipe mine from the hotel)A folder to hold all the release forms, solo sign offs, tech inspections, waivers, session schedules etc.WristwatchSneakers or driving shoes. Bring a second pair in case they forecast bad weather. Sandals/flip flops are not gonna cut it.extra socks for same reasonLong sleeve cotton shirts (2), though some clubs will give you an long sleeved event shirt.Long cotton pants, like jeans. Most clubs won't allow shorts.Cotton Sweatshirt (depends on the weather. I go with layers in the spring/fall. Remember plasticky materials like in windbreakers melt in a fire. so cotton is what you want to wearCamera: You'll see have tons of interesting cars and have action shot opportunities. Crash helmet (if you own one), make sure it's got the right approval on it.Snell 95's are expired now.Bungee cordsCanopy + anchors: I have a canopy that I bring to summer events. Always best to set it up with another persons canopy (bind them together with those bungee cords, make em more stable in windy conditionts. It also provides an extra big shaded area. (great at lunch time)Fire extinguisher - strictly optional, but having a nice mounted one in the interior is recommended.Driving gloves. You handswill sweat in the summer, so having a positive grip is always best. Misc. nuts/bolts, washers, clamps. Never knowwhen you'll need something small.
