I am currently looking at the M45 Sport. The navigation is a must and am thinking of getting the Journey Package, but I'm not sure if the Technology Package would be worth the extra 4 grand. I'm not that big an audiophile, but can someone compare the difference between the 2 systems in terms of sound quality? Is it that much better? Other things in the Technology package don't interest me....or can someone convince me otherwise. I'm pretty open. I'm new to this board, after looking for a used M5 and appreciate the wealth of info. Thanks

Although the list price for the Tech package is $4200, the price does include the Nav system which lists for $2000 so the increase in price is really only $2200. I really like the ICC, even when it is "Off" it detects vehicles ahead and pre-pressurizes the brake system. Don't know if this will convince you, just my 2 cents.

FYI, the back-up camera is part of the Journey package, not the Tech.

Journey Package • Climate-controlled front seats• High Intensity Discharge (HID) xenon low-beam headlights with Adaptive Front lighting System• Bose ® 230-watt audio system; 8-speaker, 2-channel stereo system with AM/FM, in-dash 6-disc CD auto changer, and MP3-CD playback• RearView Monitor displays area behind vehicle, in real time, when vehicle is reversing via dash-mounted color LCD screen• Pre-Crash Seatbelts: When hard braking is necessary, pre-crash seatbelts react by retracting the seatbelt to pull the driver and front passenger into their seats, helping to position them for airbag deployment in the event that an accident is imminent.

I like everything in the tech package except the LDW (lane departure warning system). Thankfully you can disable it, either by pressing the button each time you start up or by changing the default to leave it off unless you specifically turn it on.

The only benefit I can see for it is if you are driving late and sleepy and want a warning that you are drifting out of your lane - if you are that bad off better just pull over and get some sleep - otherwise it's a bit like a nagging back seat driver annoying you - particularly if you are driving some fun country twisties.

Other than that I am very happy that I got the tech package - and the 5.1 stereo is top notch.

Good luck with your decision - no matter what you choose you'll like the car!

The 5.1 DVD-Audio is just amazing! I drove a car with and without it. I was already wanting the Nav system. I don't travel all that much so the ICC hasn't been that big a thing for me. The lane departure is too annoying. I turned it off for good after a couple weeks.

The Nav system is great though.

The entire Tech package is great but for me the highlight of it is the DVD player along with the 14 speaker system. I was actually at the park on saturday looking at movies. The 14 speaker system drew crowds as Man under fire got going. However if the Nav is all you want then save the 2k but if you ever decide to go aftermarket you can bet it'll cost you a lot more and won't sound as great.
