Ok, so maybe im being a little harsh. I have had my pacesetter header for the last 9 years. But driving home from work, in the 97 degree south Louisiana heat, my car started missing. I figured it was because of the high compression pistons, the aggressive ECU tune, and the heat. Then it started missing BAD. Like i really thought i threw a rod through the side of the block bad. Limp the last 2 blocks to the apartment, park it and pop the hood. I have a dime sized hole on the #4 exhaust tube and a pea sized hole on the EGR outlet of the header. Damn mild steel piece of garbage. I knew i shoulda spent the extra dough waaaay back then and gotten the Hotshot. O well, looks like i'll be trying to find an OBX single cam header now.

Im actually glad this header lasted as long as it did. Nine years is a long time to be beaten on, especially for what was, at the time, the cheapest header available. But it does suck that it blew out and i now have to spend money replacing it. Oh well, thats life.

I did go to Advanced Auto Parts and pick up a "exhaust system repair kit" that consists of some goop, a aluminum sheet covered layer of fiberglass, and some metal band clamps. Didnt work worth a squat. O well, it was only $4 and change, worth a try at least.

Oh i know, i was kind of being fecicious. It just really sucks that ive been spending all my money building my CA18DET for this car and now i have to replace my header on my KA. I REALLY cant complain because it lasted as long as it did.

Im gonna remove it tomorrow and try and take some pics. But i think im gonna try and find an OBX stainless steel one seeing as im taking the motor from this car and putting it into my fastback.

what do you all think of that header posted before, I notice it says stainless steel finish or coating.......

its pretty damn cheap, even cheaper then a pace setter.... i wonder if it lacks in the fit department tho.......

OBX headers are hard to find, are they solid stainless steel piping... and how do they fit?

you know 9 years is good for even a stock US style cast iron manifold, like Fords etc... they break a lot, also so do the chevy truck manifolds... so a tubular steel painted pos lasted pretty good if it served for 9 years... its not like they are really expensive either..... thats all I'm saying... I'd be happy if one lasted 5 years that isn't ceramic coated or such... I think that would be pretty damn long considering... even aftermarket v8 headers that are nickel coated or just painted don't last more then a few years before becoming all rusted and welds cracking.........

Yeah, im looking for an OBX. Looks like NOPI still carries the Pacesetter in both black painted (what i have, the paint burns off within the first hour after installation) and 'armor coated', which i can only assume means ceramic coated. But they are expensive for what they are. I would REALY love to find a Hotshot header, but alas they arent made anymore.

The silver lining is that i just swapped my auto fastback to a 5spd and installed a MR short shifter, so this is now turning into my daily driver. The plan the whole time was to get the fastback reliable (a 2 speed auto wasnt cutting it), then yank my built KA out of the coupe, drop in the CA, get it running, yank the tired old KA from the fastback, and replace with my built KA. Its just that circumstances are now dictating my timeline. And i still need a new header anyway.

kust weld the holes and be done with it. 9 years is pretty damn good. if you want good gains, you should look into having one made. there arent really any good ka headers on the market. After all a lot of power can be made in the header.

Go with the OBX, I got mine from Heavy Throttle. Got an excellent deal on it. Check in case he might have another one. It fits great. Other than the O2 sensor hitting the firewall. Easy fix with a rubber mallet. I'm surprised you got that many years from your pacesetter. There was also a guy on Ebay selling a SOHC OBX some time ago....

not knocking N/A(what kinda power you making?) but for just a few dollars more a nice stainless turbo manifold can be bought, snag a cheap turbo, with d/p and boost man, You can always tune the high comp, with less time and more fuel, just run low boost..... I know no one likes to mess with high comp/turbo setups but I think its the ****, your making great power then amazing power when boost hits. 7 psi would dyno like 300 easy at 10.5:1 comp, shyt would be sick

Not on the KA. That motor's gonna stay NA. Im betting im pushing upwards of 180-190 all motor, but ive never dynoed it or ran at the track. I just know its fast as hell for a 4 banger.

Boosting is definately gonna happen, but with my CA18DET. In fact, once that motor is in my coupe and running so i can drive it to and from work, im going to do a slight tear down on the KA before it goes into the fastback. Im going to swap bearings to some Calico coated ones, find a crank scraper (windeage tray), rering with some DECENT rings this time (rings that came with my custom made JE pistons were poo poo), silicone the oil pan on (no more leaking cork gaskets for me), and get a high volume oil pump.

I do love my NA KA. But its going to be the redheaded stepchild to the CA.

IDK what are the plans for said ca? I think a 190whp ka would walk a stock ca, what like 175chp on tose stock? all I'm saying is ka~t will still own. lol I'm bias as a mutha though, 6psi I'd bet on close to 200whp, no lag. trq curve is flat(ie pulls from go,boost at 1800rpms-redline, guessing like 215 on the trq, I'm too broke to dyno )
