Hey all, I know what you all think of pacesetters.. but I found a cheap *** header thats was blasted and re-painted with high-temp engine enamel. So all rusting problems have been addressed, is there anything else I should watch out for?

Unless it cracks there shouldnt be any problems. I hear they dont fit too well though.

thats not what I asked... I want to know perf. gains... thats all... nothing more... Ive read ALLLL the posts about how they rust etc... Ive got mig welders, arc welders, and a 2400 sq. foot, 4-car garage with a lift if something breaks.. so I dont really care if they need to be welded again or whatever... I just want to know about the performance gains, if there are any

aight thats true my bad... but I dont think im up to the task of fabricating one... I dont have a mandrel bender, or even a press-bender for that matter. I just want to know if they show any perf. gains

Of course there will be some performance gains. Its impossible to tell you how much because that depends on your engine, and what other mods you have done. If you dont have anything else done to your engine I would guess you might gain 3-5 rwhp. If you already have exhaust and intake you may see more like 5-8. But thats all ballpark guess.

I appreciate the info JJ, and vengeance: Ive looked at hot shot aswell, and done my fair share of research. The reason im more interested in the pacesetter is the 4-1 design, which would benefit my top end, whereas the Tri-Y design on the hotshot would give me gains more noticeable in my midrange... and seeing as I have a SOHC, top end power is where I need power most.

Btw, JJ I have intake, exhaust, and pulleys. And my motor is still running strong with 165psi across all 4-cyl.

I dont believe in lowballing it just to get a couple hp. You can get a hs header for 300 and you will get 12hp 10ft/lb (dynoed figures).

Im not "lowballing it", did you even read my last post? I said I wanted a 4-1 type of design, not a 4-2-1... every man and his dog knows how great hotshots are, and the dyno figures? its been talked about, over a million times on these forums. I'm sorry but what you said was not only insulting to my intelligence, but had literally nothing to do with what I asked....

I dont criticize anyone else for buying a certain brand of part for their car. And I would expect other people would be mature enough to show the same courtesy.

Id say for $80 you've got nothing to lose but some blood and sweat putting it in (experience is good right? :D ). Let us know how it works out :)

Ive got a set of custom headers designed like the pacesetters only with slightly bigger piping, and my friend has hotshots. The hotshots have bigger runners than the pacesetter Im 90% positive. And I think his hotshots give him better topend than my 4-1s. They are really well designed headers and if its not the cost that is deterring you I would suggest you get hotshots.

Its just flange ordered from online, and mandrel bent runners that meet at a collector bought online.

Gains, not sure because Im still running stock exhaust. An exhaust flange is around 50 dollars, 4-1 collectors are around 10 dollars, then just have to find someone who can do the piping for you, I have no idea how much that would cost.

I'd say go for it. Where are you getting the headers so cheap?

I understand that you're wanting the 4-1 headers b/c of the lack of top end on the sohc (the KA24 for that matter). Do you think that the sohc motor will rev high enough to be in the efficiency range of a 4-1? I doubt that even the dohc would. I'd wouldn't worry about getting a 4-1 unless I got a honda. Getting a 4-1 on a KA w/ only bolt-ons will only kill the low-end while only marginally give top-end power gains (probably about as much as the 4-2-1)
