for the life of me i cannot find the installation instructions for the pac swi jack. i wanna forward them to my brother who will be doing my install to make sure he can do it, but i can find them. if someone could give me a hand that would be appreciated ...and a few more questions

doc you said in my previous post that i need to only purchase the oem double din dash piece and use the factory brackets to install my navigation system. im going to go with the kenwood 5120. is this all i need?

is there a write up to install the 5120? i know in the d3 write up it has you wire some pink wire to a vss sensor wire behind the gauge cluster..what is the point of this and will this be a step in the 5120 installation?

ok, let's start one at a time

1. the pac swi jack installation diagram is http://i241.photobucket.com/al...k.jpg

2. the installation instructions are http://www.pac-audio.com/swixp...D=112

3. I believe I stated that your factory brackets should fit the OEM piece... when I did the install, I used the metra kit, but if its an OEM piece, the OEM brackets should be used. The only things is I don't know if the OEM brackets for the cd player/bose cd player are the same as the brackets for the navigation unit, but again, I would imagine that either bracket set would fit. If you have the factory brackets for the regular stereo, I would spend the $20 to purchase the navigation brackets just in case... it may prove to be useless, but it may save you time in the long run

4. there is no ned to do a write up for the 5120, the general instructions will apply..

5. there is no pink wire on the kenwood units, the kenwood units don't use the VSS wire, so you don't have to take apart the speedometer/odometer and hook anything up there (lucky you the vss is the vehicle speed sensor, it helps the pioneer units track exactly how fast you are going. The kenwood units use the garmin GPS system which is MUCH better than pioneer's, so the kenwood units don't require this.

6. to watch videos while the car is in motion, just attach the light green wire leaving the kenwood unit to another gorunded wire, or to somewhere on the metal chassis of the car

7. WATCH YOUR BROTHER DO THIS INSTALL!!!!!!!!!!!

Hope this helps6.

no, http://www.trademotion.com/par...gid=2

see, the brackets that are used with and without the navigation system are different. I don't know which one you need for the OEM double din fascia, but you MAY need the ones that are used with the factory navi unit

I would just buy those (left and right) and see, again, its just like ~$20 shipped

Yes, you will have the w/o nav brackets. I'm about 99% sure that these brackets will work perfectly with an aftermarket head unit. Unfortunately, the parts I removed from my car (including the OEM dash panel and brackets) are all hiding in a closet somewhere, so this will be hard for me to verify. In fact, I'm going to disagree with Doc and tell you not to buy the nav brackets. It should save you $20 and I'm almost certain the nav brackets are too wide for a double din unit (IE, they wont fit at all).

Oh yeah, if your bro is the car stereo guy, I'm going to assume he's installed at least one stereo before. If this is the case, he should be able to install the PAC adapter. The instructions are somewhat confusing, but the install is relatively simple. Also, Doc's diagram should make it a breeze.

the more I think about it, the more I think you will NOT need the navi brackets... I think apple's right on this one... its an OEM piece meant for non auto climate units, it should work perfectly with your factory brackets!

OH yeah, but don't forget to but the

It doesn't take an electrician. Just make sure he heat shrinks the resistors to avoid shorts. Should be good to go then.

no, nothiong, wrong, its like that with all aftermarket headunits and pac swi units... I have noticed that the delay is shorter (response is quicker) with the kenwood units vs the pioneer units

I just reused the stock brackets that came with my car when I installed my 5120. I got the dash tim (part #68260-ja00a) for double din openings with manual ac from nissan and screwed the stock brackets onto that. The only difference is that kenwood attached to the bracket with 3 screws versus the 4 that the stock radio is attached with.
