95/ka24de/manual

keep in mind this car used to be an automatic. Ok, so i went to auto zone today and used their obd2 computer and found out that i had a p1605 (manufacturer contrl. auxiliary inputs. auxiliary outputs) what does this really mean, and how do you fix it? It also threw out a P0705 [trans range sensor circuit malfuction (PRNDL input) ] i'm guessing that one has something to do because of the conversion. how do you fix that one?

thanks to all for the help

You need a FSM!!!

but the P1605 means that you are having a communication error w/ your ecu and your auto trans.

P0705 means that your park/neutral switch is malfunctioning do a search and find out how to trick you ecu into thinking it is in neutral for the manual swap.

Here's a thought: Are you using the automatic ECU, or are you using the manual ECU?!?

It seems like switching to a manual ecu will solve your problem. The auto transmission has sensors and outputs the manual transmission lacks.

But an auto ECU can be used in a manual harness, yes?

I hear some people do this because of some silly notion of a speed-limiter cut not being present or whatnot? My mind was thinking that maybe this was done and perhaps the computer thinks the auto trans is still there?!?

so the car is allowed to go faster with an auto ecu on a manual transmission?

Yeah it can but the OBD2 system has alot of extra diuagnostic stuff that is very temperamental.

Supposedly so, but this is all hearsay as I have never been able to prove this myself or have I actually heard anything from anyone I trust about it (I'm not crazy enough to go 120+ MPH much).

No duh, that's what I was getting at, the manual trans doesn't have a auto-control box to guide it and an auto ECU won't know that. I betting my money on what I think here.Best way to tell is to get the number off the ECU and post it up. I'll eat my words if I am wrong.

Yeah OBD2- On Board Diagnostic 2 is a system that uses signals from the engine and transmission to make it easier to diagnose problems. When something goes wrong with the system, I/E a missing sensor then the ECU spits out a code to identify the problem. The manual OBD2 ECU made for the manual transmission has inputs made specifically for that transmission so that it can be used as a diagnostic aid. The Auto ECU uses inputs from the auto transmission. In a normal (OBD1) car you can get away with using an auto ECU because it is not made to be a diagnostic system. This is all my understanding though I may be wrong

Right, they call it a OBD1 on board diagnostic system because it isn't a diagnostic system

Anyways... I've looked at the numbers on the ECU and it starts with an "A" , means it is automatic? just like on a VIN?. By the way on the ECU it says "Nissan Genuine Ramanufactured ECU"

Yes that is a automatic ECU.

Go get a manual one and then figure out your seperate neutral switch issue.
