Greetings all from water logged AZ. I've been offline awhile, relapsed after 12 years of sobriety and checked myself in and getting stronger day by day.

Anyway, before someone throws the RTFM at me, is there a common failure item to resolve it? I think it may be the canister control vacuum switch, the voltage didn't vary as I tried to apply vacuum. I have checked all the vacuum lines and all connectors...

TIA in advance, taking it a day at a time...

THX Yoda! 2 weeks today!!!! Whoo-hoo!!!!

Anyway, a kind NICO member who recently had a loss is working with me on the 2 suspects I have- CC Vacuum Check Switch and the Canister purge control valve solenoid.

And to top it all off, the wife's Grand Am started with a high rev this AM...UGH!!!!

Just called and ordered the Canister Control Vacuum Check Switch from Infinitipartsusa.com. What a bunch of helpful guys! it's going to take them 3-4 days to get it and ship it to me. For future reference, if anyone with a 96-97 J needs this, it's part # 2236013M01. I got it delivered for $79.40, 10 smackers cheaper than http://infiniti.sewellparts.com/, which by the way has great parts diagrams.

The 8.5v reference voltage didn't change when vaccum wasn't present, according to the research I did. I am confident that this is the problem.

I'll keep you all posted.

Yeah!!! Got the Canister Control Vacuum Check Switch, installed it, reset the CEL and life is good!!!!!

Hope my experience helps someone else out. Now off to the front rotors. Bought mid-grade and yup, after 3 months, warpage. But the dog needs 4 teeth pulled and that's gonna set us back $500, so I'll return the cheapos and order premium rotors next month.

Have a great day guys/gals!!!

Steve

Thx Yoda! And blessings to you for helping strays. I just wish I had bought the premium rotors in the 1st place, as many in the group suggested. Now I get to play the return game with the rotors. At least the parts guy @ Checker now knows....They have premiums for $99/ea, Infinitipartsusa.com- $89/ea. I think the shipping is going to make the Checker rotors cheaper...
