I have a 2000 Infiniti I30 that recently had the SEL, SLIP, & TCS Off lights all come on. After a couple restarts, only the SEL remains on, but I pulled the codes and came up with P1320 (Ignition signal primary) & P0171 (System too lean - Bank 1). The exhaust sounds louder than usual (reminded me a bit of when my old Camry's flex pipe broke, but not quite as loud), although I have not noticed any significant difference in performance. I replaced each ignition coil individually to eliminate that as a possible problem since it was easy enough but they all seemed to work fine so I have the original coils still in. I saw in another post someone mentioned it could be the mass air filter, but I was hoping to get some input before I buy a part or bring it in for service (I'm not particularly experienced). Thanks everyone for any info.

:welcome: to NICO!

You might want to read up on these codes and follow the diagnostic steps in the factory service manual. It's available at http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/i30/2001/

I linked you to the 2001 copy, since the 2000 seems to be missing some sections.

Good luck!

Thank you for the welcome! I've come here before to read old threads and there is a ton of useful information around. Thanks for the tip also, I actually have the I30 Service Manual and somehow never realized the codes were listed in there with the diagnostic steps. Wish I saw that earlier, since I dropped my car off at the mechanic already, although he has yet to find the problem himself, so I probably would have been in over my head.

Since you mentioned the 2000 manual is missing sections, would whoever maintains the manuals like my PDFs, which are complete?

My mechanic said he reset the codes but wasn't able to find anything. I'm going to drive it a bit to see which codes come back, but it definitely sounds louder than usual. I'll try going through some of the diagnostic procedures from the FSM, but if anyone has any ideas whatsoever, they would be appreciated.

If the exhaust sounds louder, I would certainly look for leaks. Also, if I'm not mistaken, that series of I30 started the variable chamber muffler setup - with a valve that bypasses some of the muffler and reduces back pressure at cruise - so I would think it's possible that having that stuck open could cause it to be louder...

The car recently started hesitating while stopped in gear, and the RPMs would flutter a bit. Based on what I read that matches a MAF sensor problem, and the second mechanic replaced it and claimed that would fix the problem (probably should have just done this myself). Turns out there is an exhaust leak at the flange joint but supposedly that wouldn't cause the hesitation. I got my car back and it's absolutely no better. Does anyone know if that's because it has to relearn things with the new sensor or should I be seeing an improvement already? They charged $440 just for this work, so I'm not going to be too happy if that wasn't the problem.
