My car has been throwing P1165 which is something about the swirl valve check valve, which I have identified as a part ontop of the drivers side shock tower. There however is supposed to be a vacuum line connected to it, my car does not have this line.

Can someone post a picture of where on the engine the line for the swirl valve check valve is??

I appreciate it

Thanks

FSM shows it as just below and just inboard of the brake master cylinder.

FSM has a six-page diagnostic procedure for P1165. I'd suggest getting an FSM.

I do have an FSM, and Ive located the check valve right by the shock tower, but its supposed to have a vacuum line going to it, mine does not. I found a vacuum diagram in the fsm but its very hard to follow and very different looking than a REAL engine, I was hoping someone could post a picture of there cars engine they had or something, and maybe I could follow it from there picture

You are right about location. Maybe we need 3-D pictures in the FSM.

The vacuum line on my 2001 manual transmission PF runs to a block of four nipples at the left (US driver's side) front corner of the
engine. It attaches to the third one back which has a blue dot.

Hope that helps.

There are some diagarams on page EC-26 and EC-27 of my PF manual that are worth a look.

Yes Im staring at that diagram on EC26 here aswell, I dont know if my eyes are just bad,but I cant see where that line goes for the life of me. Ive tried zooming on the picture and I just cant accurately follow it when they all bundle up in the diagram.

I was hoping someone had a picture of an actual real life engine showing where this swirl valve was supposed to connect, that would help me immensely. Im not a great mechanic, Im just a mom trying to give her son a working car that I dont have to worry about lol

Note that picture shows the block of four nipples I was talking about, so I don't think it's unique to M/T.
I'm wondering if a prior owner removed a bunch of vacuum lines.

Yes the previous owner or the sales lot we bought it from pulled a fast one on us. My husband is dealing with that legally hopefully.

Maybe its just because the picture in the FSM is "cartoon" but I dont recall the vacuum block or lines looking like that. Thats why I was hoping someone could post where exactly in a real life picture there swirl valve connects to.

Im having a tough time picturing it. I bought 10 feet of new 4mm vacuum hose today to replace the old looking lines, but Id like to put them to the right places.

thanks Chuck

Look at the pictures in this DIY I posted.

You should be able to trace the vacuum hose from one of the pictures.

Yay! thanks, thats perfect, I must have looked at 50 threads hoping for an engine picture but never found one like yours. Do you think it matters if the vacuum line is THAT long?

Im going to go check if my engine already has something plugged into that port

thanks again

Well, Nissan engineers thought it was a good idea. I'm in no position to judge their decision to do so, even though I have a BS in mechanical engineering...
