p1078 code

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

P1078 is the EVT (exhaust cam) sensor for bank1 (passenger side). There are indirect problems that can cause it, but in reality it's almost always a bad sensor. It's located in the back of the passenger side cylinder head.

Hey VStar , as Ive been casually going through reading so many sensor problems , like these cam , crank sensor whatever , fully internalized or just bolt-on outside and protrude into the motor . What in your vast knowledge maybe the key to longevity with these components , notwithstanding QC nor poor assembly ?? Like is frequent , quality , full synthetic oil a significant factor ?
I wonder because in virtually all my vehicles , 235k , 285k ,150k miles I've NEVER experienced faults nor codes on them

The OE parts are pretty darn good, but like any part that combines silicon and inductives, they're very sensitive to ground faults. Couple a dicey ground with a bad location that gets little ventilation, problems are almost guaranteed. The older transverse VQ's are a good example, the rear cam sensors fail a lot more frequently than the front ones just because they're buried at the back of the engine and at the bumf__k end of the engine harness. You can't do anything about the design location, but that's why I'm always harping on people to voltage-drop their ground connections. It's the best 5-second favor you can do your electronics in general. I know you personally take very good care of your battery connections, and if you haven't had trouble with your sensors, I'm sure that's a good part of the reason.
