P0455 EVAP CONTROL SYSTEM error code

Got a 2005 Nissan Sentra S 1.8 with the error code P0455 EVAP CONTROL SYSTEM. The check engine light keeps switching on and off. I checked out the FSM from the forum and trouble shot it the best I can without the Conssult II. Here is what I have done:

Replaced the gas capTested the two electronic valves (vent into the intake and the other to vent the charcoal box)Looked for crushed hoses, smell of gas, replaced O rings in the hoses and electral devicesPressurised the system with 2 PSI and held pressure.

Any thing I missed?

Oy, I've had that same code (and two other related ones) off and on for a couple of years.

I've replaced all that stuff too. From what I've been able to dig up, the next most likely culprit is a bad ground or ECU.

Welcome to NICO! Try checking the grounds and we'll go from there.

I think I got it figured it out. I pulled the vent valve out of the charcoal box and rechecked it. It was frozen so I smacked it against the ground and it freed it up. I lubed it with WD-40, triggered the valve with a battery about 50 times, and reassembled it. The check engine light turned off after 30 miles or so.

Next week I will be doing 400 miles next week so we will see what happens.

I know that this thread is old, but just wanted to say thanks so much...
You gave me the confidence to do it myself.
I gave the vent valve a try and found that is was stuck open.
I cleaned with contact cleaner and did the same procedure and low and behold all is good.
