my CEL went off, kept coming back, and I got the code from a local autozone as P0400.I was told I'd need to replace my EGR valve, which I've found for $130 at a parts store. Can anyone give me a clue as to where it is located within the engine. Is this something I can replace myself? Otherwise, around how much would a local shop charge to replace this?

Thanks in advanced

400 at dealer 250-300 at local mechanic. Not exactly sure where it is located. I think you have to pull the intake manifold. I also assumed you have a'00 maxima. Prices are from dealer and mechanic in Olympia Wa. prices vary by region of the U.S.A.

Sorry, New York is more expensive than here. It wont break any thing to run it with a bad EGR it just kills your mileage. So I guess with the horrible gas prices it's cheaper to fix it. What do you pay for a gallon in NY? Here it's 3.28 for a gal o' premium.

I had that code on my '98 and when I cleared it the light stayed off. That was about a month ago.

+1 try Mav's idea before you shell out the bucks for a new EGR valve. Good thinking Mav' !!!

Hey, as cheap as I am.. When the CEL comes on, the first thing I do is check it and clear it... If it comes back on, and keeps coming back on, then I will fix it. I don't have the money at the moment to keep fixing things that can wait.

Mav, I'm not busting your chops, that really was a good idea and I will probably use it the next time I get a CEL.

It's cool man, I took it exactly as you meant to say it. I know what you meant, I was just saying I am cheap as hell and I do that with everything I have. If I get a light, I clear it and fix it only if it shows back up a couple times.

Glad I could help.. I wonder if that fixed the OP's light...

to me!

So... did you actually replace it? I have a 98 Max, getting the 0400 & 0325 codes. I'd like to fix them myself. I'm no mechanic, but I'm not necessarily afraid, either.

Can it be done by a diy'er? Does anyone know of an online Chilton's-esque site? Thanks!
