so the infamous Check Engine Soon, VDC OFF and SLIP lights are on. I was driving and the car shut down; before that happened, i feel a little surge, hesitation from the car and then about 100 yards or so, the car shut down. WHen i turn the car on again, it hesitated and seemed a little hard/over cranking trying to turn itself on.

so after searching the forum, i found several folks mentioned the code and the symptom. Yet no one post whether they fix it themselves or have it done at the dealer. i found a replacement part at autozone for about 70-80 bucks depending on which side.

so my questions to you enthusiast and tech. which is side is bank 1 and have you done this swap yourself? if so, how involved is it? any feedback or comments are greatly appreciated.

Not sure which is bank 1, but replace the cheaper sensors first.

I resolved my issue in my M45 after replacing all 4 sensors (2 cam and 2 crank). It was the crank sensor that seemed to be of issue. I first replaced the 2 cams (90 per sensor) and still had the problem. It was after replacing the two crank sensors (30 per sensor) that my car went back to normal.

My mechanic said the cranks are easy to get to, but easy to miss. Change the cheaper ones first though!!

Please keep in mind I have a 2004 M45.

Good luck!!!

Problem is fixed. i did not buy OEM nissan part because it's Xmas and i need the car. so i opt for Autozone Duralast Made in USA with 2 years warranty. this cost about 60 bucks. you want to make sure you get the straight sensor, not the angle one. My wonderful autozone rep gave me the wrong one which cost me another trip back for the right sensor.

anyway, here you go. thanks to the internet, i found tons of information on this issue. apparently Nissan/Infiniti are notorious for this issue. OEM part at my nissan dealer cost round 89 bucks while at infiniti dealer cost 90$.

these are not my pictures because i didn't have time to take any. It's cold and i just want to be done with it. however this author took several pictures that are very good.

passenger sensor plug - it's at the back of the engine by the battery. you can't miss it. it's bright green

this is a very good reference for you to read up. there are more in the g35, z350 forums. just search "nissan infiniti p0340 camshaft position sensor bank 1" and you'll get some very good source.

Al right folks, Merry Christmas and Happy early New Year to you and your family.

I just had the same issue. Took it to the dealer and they said the reset the code. They said something about the ground need to be cleaned. Started the car and runs fine. Hope I licked out..

well the sensor is going to deteriorate slowly and eventually will cause a CEL along with the other two lights. you will end up needing a new sensor anyway. if you're under warranty, push to get it done. if not, buy a new sensor and fix it yourself or pay dealer for the fix. This will not go away unless you get a new sensor!
