The other day my 1995 240sx 5spd had a strange issue.I was driving, and it felt like i was driving an automatic with a bad transmission. The throttle response was really slow. I have a KA24-DE. engine.
So I thought I'd do an OBD2 reading even though my Engine light was not on. The OBD2 plug is located in the center column right under the glove compartment.
The reading I got was P0325 knock sensor malfunction.
So the guy at schucks was like I got one for $180 bux. I was like ohhhhh heck no!! I'm not paying that much for something the size of a quarter.
So i found one online for like $40 and decided to do my own install.Just to find out that this sensor is located in the middle of the air intake manifold. I couldn't even get my hand in there to touch it. After sitting there staring at it for a while I found a solution to my problem that could also benefit you. I'm cheap so this is probably the cheapest way you can do it. This is my first post so here it goes.
Tools Needed:
I was cheap so i used a few extensions for the rachet wrench and taped them together.
First Use the 10mm socket to pull out 3 screws.
Then adjust the fuel line so that the socket fits onto the Knock sensor screw.
Make sure you get the right screw. Its the bottom one.
Unplug the sensor connector and pull it out after it is unscrewed.
The sensor with the connector should look like this:
Remove the sensor and replace it:
Now here is where it gets tricky. First electric tape the knock sensor screw to the 12mm socket.
Then with the grabber tool grab the sensor and connector and move it to the correct place.
Last align the sensor and and the socket and screw it in. After a few screws pull the socket out so you can remove the tape on the screw.
Now you just need to plug the sensor plug back in and put the the screws back on to tighten the fuel line and You are done.
Oh here is the cheapest place to get a knock sensor:
