My 06 M45 with 93k on it recently threw an O2 Sensor Code after some disscussion here I cleaned the MAF and cleared the code.....It wored and I didnt have any issues until this evening.....I got home and it idled very rough alomost to the point of dying out....then I took it back out and th CEL come on and I could barley acclerate.......The car starts fine, but after about 2 minutes the rough idle starts and the CEL comes on....

i have reserched the code and it appears as though it is plugs or coils?

There are a lot of walkthroughs on the M35, but not much on this motor....is this a DIY situation? I have replaced the pulley and the wheel bearing etc....

I sincerely appreaciate everyone's help!

Blaine

Might you know if your o2 sensor code is back along with the P0300?
Also, pretty funky that it would idle badly enough to almost die if it starts just fine. Is this (2 minutes) how long long it usually takes your car to come to operating temperature?

I will look into this a little further tomorrow, but yes, if it is the plugs and coils, it would not be a very difficult DIY, especially if you have done bearing work. Small issue with clearance to insert a socket extension long enough for the rear cylinder spark plugs, yet short enough to clear the engine bay walls, but nothing an extensive toolbox can't fix.

No, the O2 code did not show again. I shouldn't say 2 minutes it is more like 30 seconds to a minute.

Sounds like it's going into limp mode...might be because of the MAF. Those things are super sensitive.

Could still be bad. They're sensitive to the point that they go bad if you look at them wrong. Were you previously getting a lean code or a straight up O2 sensor performance code?

lol! Yep, this exactly. I haven't messed with a MAF in 6-7 years, but definitely see if there is a way to test it.

I will buy one from one of the local parts stores and see what I find out.

I found out this was an oil consumption issue. Now this AM the CEL came on a I am now getting a P0420 code. Due to the burning oil should I just repalce the cat?

Thanks!

Just heard back from the dealer (Nissan) and they advised that it needs a new cat. Part number 14002-6G200. There cost was around 500 for the cat (single?) and 3-4 hours of labor.

What do you guys think.

Thanks,

It's possible that you really have a damaged cat, but your symptoms are all over the place. I'd not be comfortable to plunk that much money for a new cat just yet.
Oil consumption is an issue, but many of our engines run well enough with no codes despite the consumption. How did they confirm this oil consumption that just affected one cat? Then you have that maf issue and the p0300 that might still need addressing.
If the dealer ran their consult and whatever else was needed for a proper diagnosis... then maybe I'd buy the cat if they guarantee it would end the drama.

So, to date what are all the active and pending codes from your car?

It started with the PA200, then P0300 and now the P0420 the cat code. I am thinking I bite the bullet and have the replace the cat, does $500 for the cat seem too high?

If your question is just about the cost of the cat work, then I've seen the parts go for between 350-400 Dollars online. I've also replaced one on the car in under 2 hours.
Dealer rates will vary

How tough is it? I am guessing you need a lift?

Took some effort. Jack the car up and have it on jackstands. Remove the underbody tray.
Remove the left front wheel. Lower the A/C compressor after removing the belt to get to the motor mount, jack the engine up with a piece of wood protecting the oil pan, remove the driver motor mount, use a combination of socket extensions as well as short deep sockets to remove the manifold bolts in the FSM recommended sequence. Of course, unbolt the flange between the primary and secondary catalytic converters & it's easier to just disconnect the O2 sensor harness and just remove the sensor itself while outside of the car.
I can't recall if I had to remove the lower joint of the steering column for clearance or not.
I did all this on my back on the driveway in the summer.

I had time and had the motivation to learn. I've had to pay for such tasks in the past due to things like the weather, time available etc... plus you get a warranty when a shop does the work.
