It's the '96-'00 trucks that need the plug tool. A plain spark plug wrench (and a LOT of patience) will do your '01.
How long have the plugs been in? If > 60K miles AND they are the right plug (platinum), I'd have a spare set.
I'd check the connections around #6. Unfortunately, this is the bear to get at. If I had to dig in there, i'd replace at least the plug.
Is there another coil that's the same p/n as #6? If yes, I'd swap it with #6 and see if the bug moves.
