I did a search and found out some interesting info regarding my post title. But I still have a couple questions.

My 01 Pathy has 110K miles on it. It runs well but the CEL came on a little while back. I checked it and it is P0171, engine lean condition for one of the banks. I have the FSM on cd, so I followed the troubleshooting guide and found no intake/exhaust leaks; fuel system is fine also. I haven't checked the front O2 sensor harness for an "open" condition yet, since it doesn't seem that would be too common.

From what others have said, it looks to be the MAF meter/sensor. Until I replace the MAF sensor, what kind of damage if any does this present to the vehicle? Gas mileage has not suffered at all. I am still getting around 16-17 mixed driving and 20-21 on the highway. Thanks for your responses.

Elwesso,

The CEL has come on a few different occasions. I've reset it, and it comes back after a 2nd driving trip (makes sense since P0171 must occur twice before illuminating the light).

Can damage occur driving it this way until I pick up a MAF sensor? Thanks.

Before replacing the maf try cleaning it with some carb cleaner. Sometimes if you are not using an oem air filter some dust gets past and sticks the the wire on the maf. Cleaning it may help
