i believe nissan refers to the left as the passengers side and right as the drivers but im not positive. reason i say this is because mine had a p1145 code, which is the rh valve timing control sensor. a little digging revealed that this reffered to the drivers side sensor, NOT the passengers.

Save yourself some future time and replace both sensors, cause if one goes bad, the other will follow pretty soon. Happens all the time.If this is your first time replacing them, make sure you have your computer reprogrammed (flashed), so that it doesn't happen again.Good luck.

buzzman made some good points. if youre gonna be under there getting dirty, might as well do em both. and that reprogramming buzzman mentioned is a must.

right side is drivers side. stand in front of the car and face it like you were checking the coolant or something. thats how to remember which is which.

How do you have your computer reprogrammed (flashed)? Is this the same as clearing the code with your ODB Scanner or something that you have to take to a garage?

nope, totally different thing that clearing the codes with a scanner. the dealership plugs a laptop into the car and reprogramms the o2 heaters to gradually warm up when the car starts, not immediately.

Does the reprogramming have to be done by Nissan/Infiniti dealer? My mechanic is telling me that he can reprogram the car.

Obviously an old post and asked a few times, but I have similar question as Greenporter--does this really even need to be done? If the original failed after 10+ years is it safe to assume the replacement will last nearly as long. Local dealer has no clue what I am talking about in regards to a reprogram... And not replacing both at this point, if other fails will replace it then. $60+ is bad, but the hours spent under the Path with rust in my eye trying to route the cable like a contorsionist is an entirely different story....

Just a heads-up for anyone with a P0158 code - cleaning the sensor with electronic parts cleaner may be enough to get it working again.

I pulled mine yesterday and soaked it in QD electronic parts cleaner, let it dry, and reinstalled it. I cleared the code and took a look at its readings using a scan tool, and it was reporting about the same voltage as the good sensor on the other bank. After four drive cycles (two city, two highway) the P0158 code is still gone.
