My pathy threw a code a few days ago

P0134 O2 Sensor Circuit No Activity Detected (Bank 1 Sensor 1)

I erased it without looking the code up but it came back on after only 20 min of driving. The car was also throwing a P0138 a month or so back but I soaked the sensor in gas and it hasnt come back yet, but I believe P0134 is also passenger side just like my P0138 was.

Maybe its a wiring issue?? Does anyone know how to test the sensor??

How big of a job would this be for me and my husband? And is there a best aftermarket direct replacement sensor?? Would splicing and solderring be best??

Im open for ideas. Appreciate any help diagnosing!!

Bank 1 is US Passenger's side.

However P0134 is the front sensor and P0138 is the rear sensor. So I doubt it's wiring.

The '01 PF FSM has a nine-page checkout procedure for P0134.

I had to change my o2 sensors, (both of the rear ones only though), at around 87k, i got these

http://www.amazon.com/Bosch-15733-Oxyge ... 061&sr=8-1

You just have to wire them in which doesnt take long, and the spliced wires go in a special waterproof box, and these ones are alot cheaper than anywhere else.

I paid like $89 for both of them and shipping was even free i think.

As for people who say universal or something arent good, don't believe them as i had these since like 87k and im at 119.5k now and they have been working fine.

Is the front passenger sensor accessible at all ?

Or is this going to be a huge take everything off to get to it kind of job ?

My car hasnt been starting great the last few days, takes ALLOT of cranks, would this possibly be the root cause??

Thanks for the 02 sensor suggestion for the rears, I'll probly 2 of them for the rear

Id love to get some info for the front one.

Rear sensor just to make sure everything is running right and isn't causing your hard start. IIRC, the front sensor is
reasonable accessible. Check the FSM for your code.

Patho,
I havent changed mine yet but will be getting to one of them this spring. I am going to go with the NGK version of O2 sensors (for whatever reason they call them NTK). They are supposed to be plug and play and OEM. They are not much more than other brands--cheaper than some prices I have found.
Here is link to NGK's website posting part numbers:

The cheapest I have found them is on Amazon.

I don't have any pics but it's a fairly easy job. I've change both pre and post cat driver's side sensors. It also helps if you're lifted on 33's.

Ya the drivers side looks alright, but the passenger side has no room for your hands between the side engine bay wall and the engine to get access to the sensor, unless maybe from the bottom?? Also does anyone know which connector it plugs to on the harness??

I threw a P0171 tonight to which turned out to be cylinder to lean

I guess I really need this sensor

anyone with any info changing these??

That link you just posted has 2 sensors listed for the same spot. Same price but different date and connector

So P0134 is indeed the passenger front sensor??

P0134 is "HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR 1 (FRONT) (BANK 1) (HIGH VOLTAGE)" Bank 1 is US passenger's side.

I'd suggest digging up an FSM. Google is your friend. It's likely the sensor, but there are causes other than the sensor to
check first.

Ya I have an FSM but it is of little help to someone who doesnt understand the wording or procedures. Ive scoured through it, and I just cant figure out the tests to check wiring for the sensor or how to apply it in real world with my tools. Its very difficult, maybe because I have no formal training

Patho,
I cannot tell you why Amazon shows things not working for your car but had that problem with their site before on other parts. I dont rely on them to show me the correct part number--I get the right part number from the manufacturers website and order accordingly. I am going to go with NGK (NTK) as they are supposed to be plug and play/no splicing and are reasonable on amazon. Havent changed an 02 sensor on any vehicle before but it looks pretty straight forward aside from the room needed. Harbor Freight makes a $4 02 socket which I plan on getting also. Not sure that helps at all, I have a 3.3 so part numbers are not going to be the same.

Check the production date on the side of your driver's side door and match it with an OEM replacement from here: Parts Geek 2001 Pathy O2 Sensors

The heated O2 front sensor does wear at about 100K km or 60 K miles with the effect of poor MPG and slow response to rich, lean causing the rich or lean codes. If miles driven is high they will have to be changed and do the fronts both banks.

Instead of wiring as OEM buy completed wired units install the sensor and bring up the connector and connect. Then go back under with a tube of high temp RTV and glue the loose cable to the body or area with not much heat.

This installation is easier, safe and works. Cut away the old wires, You are good for another 100 K km.

The rear sensors should not activate since the front are now good. If they do remove and clean, reinstall.
