After 100K miles my 2012 rogue started throwing code P0101, mass airflow. I replaced the sensor twice. Once with an aftermarket tensor once with OE part. ($230!!!) Both times the code returned after 2 weeks. It will also go away for 2 weeks if I clean the sensor with MAF sensor cleaner. Is there anything else I can do to stop it from throwing this code? The dash light has been on now for 6 months. Driveability is not affected. My concerns are:

1. if I get used to the dash light on, I may miss an important code
2. If the light is on I cannot take the vehicle for emissions testing.

Because It always comes back after 2 weeks, I'm thinking that unplugging the sensor clears the code whether the logic has actually changed or not.

Try doing a hard rest to clear the codes.

Check for any cracked or split pipes between the air filter box and the intake.

I have a code scanner and can use it to clear the code. Is a hard reset something different?

I think he’s talking about pulling the battery cables and touching them together. That’s if you don’t have a code reader to clear the codes.

I had the same issue, after i got the new sensor I cleaned the battery terminal with a brush and it cleared right up.

Ground issues for the MAF itself can cause it. If somebody has switched to like a K&N filter that can too.

I use the OE air filter. What are the ground issues? Is there a ground wire loose somewhere in the harness?

What happens is as the vehicle gets older especially up north in the salt belt, parts begin to rust and contact between the electrical system and the car frame (ground) is not as tight as it was. The most visible ground is the big black wire running from your battery to the frame. The attachment point should be clean and tight and so should the battery terminals, both of them. That is not the only ground point though there will be several scattered around the engine bay, some may even be under the battery. I've not had to go searching for them yet. Make sure they are all clean and tight.

Il clean the battery terminals and see if that helps. Thanks. I know after I lift the cables, I'll need to reprogram the radio presets, and probably re-sync the cel phone. Anything else I'll need to reprogram?

Run the front windows completely up and down holding the switch on briefly between movements, to reset the auto up and down window feature. You should probably disconnect the battery before you start.

Not just the terminals but the other end of the ground as well where it attaches to the engine.

I do indeed have some loose air fitting between the air intake scoop and the MAF sensor. The plastic has become brittle and some pieces are cracked. Short of replacing the entire assembly, is there anything I can do to seal the cracks without creating a potential fire hazard? I had thought about duct taping the scoop assembly at the joints but that would prevent me from removing it when necessary to replace the headlights. I thought about this thread last night because, for no apparent reason, my friend the check engine light disappeared. It took me a moment to register what was different, I was so used to seeing it.
